One word: PULL.

Its not the dash - it's center console. Unscrew the shifter, then pull the bottom part out first, then the top part - you will have access to the bolts that hold the HU.

http://zoltiz.com/cars/tc/files/ - I posted several accessory install manuals. Look at XM and sub manuals - they have instructions on how to get to the HU.

Pictures of someone installating a short shifter, but he shows how to disassemble the armrest unit-thing. May not help with replacing the head unit, but if you ever want to put an amp under the seat, this may be worth looking into.

Although, this one ( http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22943 ) has some pictures of taking the stereo off (I can't confirm, the page won't load at the moment...)
