ZPI Lightweight Crank Pulley

Does anybody have any thoughts on this? It's the same diameter as stock, so it isn't an underdrive pulley, but they claim it weighs less than 25% as much as the stock pulley (1lb vs. 4.4lbs)

i went to the track 2 weeks after i got the pulley and i went from a 15.7 to a 15.4 ... i went back to back 2 weeks in a row....a month or 2 later i went to the track and couldnt hit better than a 15.8 and i went back to back 2 weeks in a row...(its my crazy track cycle just to make sure the mod is working)anyways long story short i got rid of the pulley and my car feels so much better i felt like i lost power for a good while....when they took off the pulley there was oil in the timing area but the pulley was fine, and the guy who owns the shop told me it was loose and it was a matter of time that my car would have gone bad
Yea crank pullies are junk. Save for a lightweight flyhweel.
what does the general public think of renaming this topic "Crank Pulley Info" and making it a sticky?
Good info metal. That shows that the pulley gave you zero useable gain. If it would have you would constently seen lower times granted you drove well each time. If there was any gain at all, it is so small it is lost in the variation of everything else (driving, track conditions, running conditions, etc). So you gained nothing and risked a damaged crank, bearings, etc. Again, this showed no power gain. Which coincides with basic physics that tells us it will not give you a power gain. It was most likely loose due the higher level of harmonic vibration set up from it.

As lo bux mentioned, dynojets are very innacurate. They are fooled by simple changes to rotational mass. People dont like to use load dynos as much to sell these types of mods.. cause they read lower most of the time.. the reason they read lower is that they are harder to "fool" on a steady state run and are more accurate. But hey, accurate doesnt sell mods does it?

no doubt. same argument we have had for intakes. too bad the masses refuse to listen.

Err, also I think Lance's big post should be at the top and maybe that one guy at the beginning (just to give it context.) Those three links are probably enough... assuming people who want pulleys are going to read them.
i have to state one thing...prior to the pulley i went from weslaco tx to austin tx...by the time i hit san antonio i had to fill up....i went a month or so later w/ the pulley and i made it to austin with gas to spare....w/ the pulley a tank would get me 370mpg per tank...w/o the pulley im gettin 330 max what could that be
It surely isn't the pulley especially for steady state cruising. I got all kinds of different mileage on the trip to Atlanta and back. High was 32. Low was 21.6. All the same car over a five day period at pretty much the same speeds, with the same two drivers (and no there was no statisically significant difference in mileage between our driving habits).

It could be a lot of things. It's just not the pulley.

And on the mileage thing, it is the same effect as it has on power (which is none
) and here is why:

Per Mr, Newton, an object at rest tends to stay at rest, an object in motion tends to stay in motion. Of course, this is only changed by outside forces and is related to inertia. If you remove rotational mass, the engine will rev up quicker, but also spin down quicker. The opposite is obviously the case with adding mass. At a steady state, the engine is still producing the same amount of power, so there is no effect. This is why a inertial dyno is "tricked" by these mods, and why a steady state reading from a load bearing dyno will be a more accruate reflection of what is actually being produced.

Mileage will vary greatly from tank to tank, trip to trip, etc. It is perfectly possible for this car to hit 35 mpg for one tank.. or 15 mpg. So two trips is not really a good measurement in this area.

11,000 miles with the lightweight crank pulley and no problem at all..

Here's a thread of about 100 people who have them on their car (some for more then 30,000 miles) with no problems:

Also, I did test this mod at the track, and my MPH went up by .9, ET went down by .1.. Not bad for a $130 mod which takes about 15 minutes to install.

Air temps were very similar, car was the exact same weight, same mods, only difference was the pulley. 60' was almost exact.

Out of the 120+ time slips I have with my tC, over 60 of them have been with the crank pulley. I love it and think it's a great mod.
