Would trade in ur 05 for an 06?

Hey guys its been a while.

So I thinking about buying an iPod and wanted to use in my tc 05. Unfortunately (the dealer) says the aux for the 06 cannot be installed into an 05.(is this true?) Its a great option is cuz you got the controls in your steering wheel and I believe the LCD screen in you radio displays the song and Artist from your ipod. Plus its powered by your car vers the ipod itself. Now I live in LA so I really cant use iTrips, cuz theres to many radio stations and you can never get a good signal. And I dont have a tape deck so cant use that method. I could get it hard wired into the back of my radio, but would it display song and Artist on the LCD screen/be powered by the car? Any audio shop could do that for around $100 or so....And if anyone tells me to do a search you can forget it...Everthing has been discussed so why even talk/post to one another? Answer: cuz its fun...I want up to date info.

Selling my 05 and getting an 06?

breakdown.
KBB value of was 18,221 and I bought mine for $18,600 out the door.
Only had it for 13 months! 9k mileage

APR was 3.5 now its 4.7 (difference $200-300 a year) no big deal right?

I asked the dealer if there were any differences between 05-06. Only thing was the steering wheel radio controls. The iPod aux port is an $240 upgrade...

Would you do it? It would be fun to have a brand new car again...you dig?

if your dealer is WILLING to give you what the KBB is, then i say go for it.. or if you can get that by selling it. I would say that you might just have less rattles for the new model than for the first year production. plus as you said you'd have the aux in.. People here would probably say to get the PIE toy3 aux connector instead, but for me.. Hey if your dealer will work with you.. go get it..

All of us first year production owners are seeing what first year really means.. I bet the 06 owners don't have all this trouble..
You must be talking about KBB private party value, but good luck even getting KBB trade in value from the dealership. Even so, if you're only taking a $2K-$3K hit on the value of new compared to your trade in, I'd say it's worth it cause your new car will also be worth more. The sucky part is with the interest rate, but again I feel you are too optimistic - who's giving you 4.7% now ? more like 5.5% at least. But still not a total deal breaker although I wouldn't do it just for the ipod thingy. It should be possible to get a new HU with aux input, no ?
There's nothing wrong with my '05, but this is still something I thought about doing after a couple years, just to have a new car (and new paint) again. It didn't make much sense financially to start with, though, and it makes even less given the amount of time and work I have put into my car.
Instead of losing all the money you would with buying a new car, i would just buy an aftermarket HU that has ipod capability. You'll get better sound quality, too.
Something else doesn't compute in your math, cause you say you paid $18600 out-the-door, I assume you mean this includes the taxes ? Is so, suppose your pre-tax sale price was about $17500 how exactly do you believe your car is now worth over $18K ? You think its value went up ?
Sure these are some idiots out there but no one will pay for a used 05 car more than the price of a new 06 car. In general cars are worth half their original retail value after 3-5 years of being used. So even best case scenario, the value of your car drops by about $2000 per year.
Seems like a lot of hassel for just iPod functionality. If I were in your boat, I'd either learn to live with the FM transmitter, hard-wire it to the HU somehow and live without the artist/song info, or say screw it and find a HU that DOES support an iPod. Given that apple dominates 84% of the digital audio marketplace (just watched the keynote address from steve jobs, heh), I'm SURE that there are a ton of HU's out there now made by good companies that will work for you.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.
Don't forget sales tax, cali is going to nail your arse on that alone;)

I do think you guys are kind of missing his point -- I think he was suggesting trading in his tC for a new one at least in large part for the "new car" factor. I can identify, because I had thought about the same thing.
Here's a way cheaper ($50 - I'm still selling it) solution that meets you about half way on the functionality:

http://www.yoursciontc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5914

you can control your ipod from OEM '05 HU, it charges, it sounds perfect, but you don't see the track names, at least for now. I think Metra is planning to come up with auxilary screen for song name display.
Well first off let me tell you that the steering wheel controls on the car is something I can no longer live without. I LOVE it! I have the iPod upgrade and it's pretty nice man. It works well with my shuffle and the aux connects with another mp3 player I have.

But, having the hassle of going through all the politics of getting a new car, I think I'd much rather get a new HU with ipod capabilities. It's up to you-GOOD LUCK!
If the 2007 TC comes out with heated seats, would you trade your 06 in for that. If i was you, I would keep your car. If you still want to trade-in your 05 TC just be careful. They will most likely try to screw you on a trade-in. You also need to run the value of your car on Edmunds.com. KBB is always a little high on the true market value of your car. I have trade-in 4 cars in the last 4 years. I have only lost money once, which was only $200 dollars. When I traded in my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500, it had $4000 worth of hail damage, that they did not notice. When I traded in my 2001 Dodge Neon, it needed new brakes and rotors. They did not drive it, but just started it.

Another way to run up the value of your car is to call every Scion dealership in the 200-300 mile area. Tell them that you plan on trading in your 05 Scion TC for a 2006. Tell them that you live about 300 miles away, and you was wanting to know if you could send them some pictures of the vehicle via e-mail, for a trade-in value for your car. I would say that 75% of the dealerships will do this for you. Then, simply tell the next dealership what you was offered and see if they could give you a higher number. Make sure not to tell them what the other dealership offered until you heard their figure. Sometimes it will be a better number. Then you can use this number as the new benchmark. This got me from $9000 trade-in on my truck, to $10,500 on a trade-in. It only took about a week.

Gr8 answers guys and girls....thx

A few points here. I'm not selling my 05 and getting an 06 strictly for the iPod aux port. (however it is a nice function to have thats not avail for the 05) The reason I would sell it was for the new car factor/gr8 APR rate/value is holding on 05...To be able to live that new car feeling all over again!!!! That was awesome. And yes, I did get 3.5 APR thru my credit union and I checked yesterday and its now 4.7. Which is basically $200-300 more a year, big deal right? The steering wheel option is gr8, but thats not the reason either...Yes, out the door tax, license, cargo net EVERYTHING cost me $18,600 TOTAL. When I went to KBB, I was qouted $18,221. so, I'm sure someone would haggle me down, but not much...Trade ins are never a good thing unless you cant sell your car privately. Its just less of a hassle and thats why people do it. They dont want to deal with selling it on their own. I would definately sell mine to a private party. Who would do it?

The iPod factor like I said, I live in LA and the iTrip will not work cuz of too many radio stations. Even the guy at apple told me not to buy one. So I guess I have to get it hardwired into the back of my HU. With the stock HU, will I be able to control my iPod from the HU controls? If so, my understanding is I will lose the ability to see song and artist on the LCD screen, right?

On a side note: I love and hate technology cuz when you purchase one item, a better one comes out. i.e. 05 scion tc vers 06...LOL Still debating about the iPod 30g w/ video for myself. Then I saw this article, thoughts?

thanks for having my back basilisk4!
I'd wait 'till the RS2.0 info comes out at least. See what cool stuff you can get. If not, wait 'till 2007.

i have a 2005 and no, i wouldn't trade it for the 2006. it really doesn't offer me anything i couldn't get from a good audio shop.
or a phone call to Alpman and a day in my garage.

I agree with krdshrk. I too am waiting for the rs2.0 and if its another beautiful color like that HOT RED one, I'll be calling my sales guy with the quickness! But, I definitely agree with you on the "new car experience". I understand you don't just want a new tc for the small changes. All I'm saying is: is it worth going through all that trouble just so you can get a few upgrades? That's up to you my man.

BTW: the creative mp3 player is pretty cool but its just too bulky. I really like the ipod because its just so versatile with easy upgrades & downloads. And who doesn't love the battery life on ipods!? I use mine 24/7 and I don't even remember when I last charged it.

The new tc rs color is going to be blue. Thats what my dealer friend told my yesterday.
Dont have a pic..but think of a blue sky..light blue..thats the color..

looked pretty cool.

the xb series is going to be green. (sorta neonish)

FYI
Making it more clear...

If you go to:
http://www.scion.com/release_series/

and look at the blue colored text where it says "coming soon" thats the color...Much more intense then the light blue scion thats already out...Its the blue type that you would see in a Fast and Furious movie, not a blue sky blue..what was I thkn....
