Where do you keep Your wheel lock key?

5334 Views 33 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  zoltiz
This is my first car with wheels worth stealing and so Im getting the wheel locks.

I heard you dont want to keep the key somewhere obvious in the car because someone could smash a window to get it, then your tires. AND of course you need the key with you in case you get a flat tire....

So... wheres a good place to keep the key? I dont really want to lock it in my glove compartment every time...

I don't want to reveal my hiding place because then it wouldn't be as good a hiding place. =P Suffice it to say there are numerous excellent places under the hood , undercarriage, and false floor in the rear...
You can take off the rear bumper, cut out a hole in the foam filler, stick the key in there and put the bumper back
I'm sure no thief will ever guess...

Btw, there are very few versions of this toyota/lexus/scion key - good thief has em all...

Ah, the luxury of working (and parking) at a courthouse.

There are definitely a number of good hiding spots.
wheel locks, like security systems, certainly help keep honest people honest, but i assure you, if i want your wheels, i can take them. nothing more than a deterrent. *snap* there goes your wheel stud. and there go your rims.
but i still wont tell you where i keep my key.
I used to just keep mine in the glove box in my talon. Cause i figure if someone really wanted my wheels bad enough to trigger my viper alarm, break a window and find the key in the glove box, then they probably worked harder for them than i did... and I had full theft insurance on that car which included all the mods I did to it. I send EVERY receipt along with installation receipt and pictures right to my insurance agent (friend of the family). And furthermore, the way I saw it was, that if someone was gunna break into my car to get the wheel key, they'd probably just steal the whole damn car.
Why not keep it with your other keys...

Umm. Maybe because it's heavy, does not have a keyring hole and makes a lousy keychain?
i got these gorilla Lock Nut set... along with another generic lock nuts.. i have 2 keys for my set of wheels. extra protection never hurts. I usually park in the garage, but i'm just worried when i go over to my buddy's home or other enstranged neighborhood.

Also ... having Lo Jack gives u a piece of mind.

Gonna help you a lot when you are on a trip to the mountains 200 miles away from home sitting on the side of the road with a flat tire

I keep mine 14 clicks right, 7 paces left & do the hokey pokey past the wild rose bush next to the 7-11 past the 7-11 just up the road.
