last night, coming home from my girl's house, i came across a black 92 integra. i see he has gauges, lowered, stock wheels with no hubcaps and exhaust. i pulled up next to him and asked him if he wanted to go from the next stop light. he nods yes. we get to the stop light, we idle and take off on green. immediately, i'm ahead by a car length or so and by the time we had to slow down for the next stop light, i'm ahead by 3 car lengths (him having an exhaust allowed me to listen to his shifting and all sounded to go in when they were supposed to, no grinding, no delay, nothing. we get to the next stop light, i roll down my window to try to make some friendly conversation, but he wanted non of that. he idles, so i say, ok, i'll give the chap another try. light turns green. again, i'm ahead a about a car length, shift to second, he's at my rear bumper, shift to third, we're dead even, shift to fourth (all shifts are perfect), my front bumper is at his rear bumper. what the...
how is this possible? n2o perhaps?

must've had a bad run for him the first time or he was messing with you. i doubt it was nitrous. those year teggies are light and if he had a motor in there, it would destroy you. from the looks of it, he might have just had semi motor work done.

most of the time though, you win by drivers error on the streets. its always a bit harder the first time and when you have another opportunity to run again, it should be better. just like when i was stock and ran my buddies lude. first time i didnt know how to launch or where, when.. so he beat me, second time i got a better feel and beat him.

i'm not saying that his car is faster or anything.. clearly we are faster stock for stock..but if he has some work done, it doesnt seem unreasonable that the outcome was like that
hmmm, maybe
. i guess beating him by that much then having been beat by that much was kind of a shocker to me.

Well let me see...its called Vtec...Heres my experience with my cousins GSR motor in his hatchback...At launch Im up a noselength, hit 2nd we are side by side then when 3rd hits he is a car ahead...Oh yeah also sometimes when he launches wrong or something I beat him...Of course Im a better driver, he just has a 14.9 second car!!!!
its also a 92 hes had 13 years of aftermarket support to possibly build up his car, and like blazin said, anyone thats been to the track knows how races with hondas usually go..."wow hes gettin his a** handed to him, oh wait hes gettin closer now, oh dang he beat him in the end" start slow finish strong

No it's not VTEC. It's called gearing. The tC is geared to get off the line quickly, but not much else. The Honda's gears are a little better spaced, but you can't really get a good launch without abusing the clutch hard, so you suffer a bit at launch time and make it up down the road a bit.

Read the piece on shift points. The tC sucks ass on the 1 - 2 and 2 - 3 shifts because you drop too low to stay in the powerband. And first is so ridiculously low you barely get launched and you're grabbing second. The gearbox could be a lot better for racing, but I seriously doubt anyone will do anything about that soon.
good point, gearing does play an important role
Lance, please excuse my lack of knowledge in manual transmissions but a short shifter has nothing to do with gearing right?
I'll hop in since lance isn't on. A short shifter simply shortens the distance you have to move the shifter, it has nothing to do with gearing of the tranny.
Oh ok, just wondering.
i got my ass handed to me a few nights ago by a same gen integra. it was mostly my fault, i simply forgot to take him seriously. they can be quick little bastards. same with the prelude. i cant wait to wrestle my mom's 92 out of her hands and into my garage.
oh well, what can one do. much love to those integras...all 10 billion of them out there.
lol...Integras (all gen) may be fast little cars but I bet atleasy 75% of them dont have legit motors....

or any honda/acura 95 and older for that matter. it's very common in my area to have swapped engines on them things. can't be sure anymore

why would they not have legit motors, all tegs have B series motors. plenty of potential in even the Ls models, but ditch the Ls transmission. now civics i can understsand having suspect swaps, but for an integra owner (besides the DC2 owners who have older model b-series) swapping engines is a waste of money and time

Well lets see...here in Minnesota I know a lot of Integras with stolen motors...yes all integras have fast motors, but are you sure an LS teg motor is fast enough???...Ive seen a lot of tegs with GSR and typr R motors (non legit) running around...Of course they'll never really beat them civic because of their weight...still a lot of Honda motors=non legit
OH yeah and also there is no stock civic out in the US on the market from 04 and down that can beat a tC stock vs stock with the same experienced driver...(Sorry this is off topic)
LS/vtec and LS turbos are formidable opponents to say the least
