What mods are worth installing yourself?

Ok does anyone else have a prob dropping 50-60$ on an easily installed mesh gear shifter you can get for 30$ online? I want to know what mods i can install by myself and what I need to have done for me. I also want to know what prices are reasonable for the mods installed by the dealer. Are the TRD springs installable by yourself? What about foglights, pedestal spoilers, and door sill enhancements? Mats I'm assuming make for an easy install, but what all do you need? Do you need the trunk protector mat and the All season/carpet mats? I'm (according to my ranking thing) a newbie so I don't really know how to install much, but I am eager to learn. Thanks in advance! *Whew*

All those things you can install by yourself. I have installed the door sills by myself and it took 2 min. Everything else i know you can do it yourself but i dont know how hard it would be.
If you are eager to learn than learn this: DO A SEARCH! We also have an information section that has some how-to's in it.
Always SCREAMIMG search its just not polite.

See the thing is, I don't care. It's just selfish to not take the time to see if something has been talked about before. One may be new to this board but it's been up for over a year and there is a good chance we have already discussed what alot of the questions that get asked. Please do no tell me what is not polite.
he is right about the search. it is rude to not use it, but i wanted to simply know whether its worth trying to intall some of this stuff. ive looked at the installation of the trd springs and it looks pretty complicated. i wanted to know whether or not to even attempt. i dont want to screw anything up. im thinking to simply get it done by the dealer for springs.
It is not complicated to install the springs but it can be if you don't know what you are doing. The directions aren't perfect. If you have someone who is comfortable under a car you can easily do it by yourself, save a ton of money and feel really accomplished. I did.
Dude, its not personal and you must care or you would not reply. Just saying use a little tact. Maybe they sould make the search button bigger. I didn't see my first time here..I use it alot now.

Thanks

I'm very cool, just ask my mommy.
A lot is easy to install. the springs are doable but you need a alignment after so maybe find a one stop place for that. some of the interior stuff is easy the sub I had to take apart the car practically, but still plug and play.

Good luck and welcome.
if you do not have a good command of mechanics, i would not recommend you attempt suspension or engine work at all by yourself. the potential for damage to you or your car is great. cosmetics are a snap, but when you get into shocks, struts, springs, intakes, f/i, etc... either find someone who you know can handle it, or take it to a shop. i would hate to encourage you to do your own lowering just to find out something went wrong when you got back out on the freeway.

and before someone says, " but, isnt that you and your tC in the how to install trd springs write up?", yes it is. and i have been doing this for 20 years.
I had someone with lots of knowledge and experience help me and there is no way i could have dropped mine without the help.
Yeah i remember reading about a post either here or on SL where the guy had the trd springs installed by the dealer, drove it home and on his street something happened with the axle that made one wheel turn i think and his car veered and crashed into a parked car... and that was installed at the dealer... so it was covered.... i can't imagine installing it myself and having that happen... right next to a semi.
Installing mods yourself all comes down to what you feel good with doing yourself. Floor mats, shift knobs, door sills all something you can do easly. If your good with electrical then fog lights might not be hard for you to do.

But they are right dropping the car I would hire somebody to do, I have heard horror stories from my neighbors about springs getting loose while putting or taking them off and them shooting off or something along those lines.

Heck I sell car audio and I still don't feel okay installing it even though I know I could probably do it with ease.

We have most of the installation instructions on our site in the upper right hand corner of the page. You might take a look at those and see if each one looks like something you can handle, or not.
