I used to drive an old toyota that has like no power, so I'm used to pushing my gas pedal hard. Well, my habit cost me a speeding ticket. I didn't realize I was driving that fast. It was late at night and I was alone on the road cruising home. Then on the corner of my eye, a cop car starts up and follows me, then it hits the flashing lights and of course what follow is a speeding ticket. He wrote me for going 49 mph on a 40 mph lane. Of course when he clocked me with his radar, he said I was going something like 56 mph, I was like "For realz?!"

Damn, there goes my perfect driving record I held for 12 yrs.

Not to mention higher Insurance Premium now.

am i going to have to tell your mother about your driving
lol... okay just kidding... but yeah the car does have a lot more power when compared to a civic or corolla..

have to get a GOOD radar detector now.. i'd suggest a BEL or an Escort..
probably would pay for itself for the cost of one ticket

Is that illegal? If not I would consider getting one.

He only ticket you for 9mph over limit, it's not that bad.

Try to plead non-guilty on the ticket and see if you can get a court hearing. And get some point reduction class if they find you guilty. Insurance won't increase until they find you guilty.

Don't feel bad dude, I've gotten 3 since I've had my tC and its been a year. Don't settle for a good detector, settle for the best: Valentine 1. I drove back up to school tonight and it saved me 3 times.

EDIT:
Oh and the 3 tickets I got, I didn't have the V1 yet...

But the cop wrote down that he clocked me on his radar at 56 mph. 56 on a 40 mph lane is definitely speeding. I dont think I have a case. Only thing I can argue is I am new to this State and not aware of the speed limits (which is true). I only live in this State for 1 and half months.

i like how the myth out there that somehow radar detectors are illegal, they are not.. well only in virginia and washington D.C. they are legal everywhere else in the US.. now radar jammers, are illegal.. detecting the presence of radar is legal..

otherwise Valentine, Beltronics, Escort would be illegal companies.. and they are not

try a nice beltronics detector like the rx55, 65 or 995.. Escort is nice too, just for me i like the Bel interface and look.. just looked them up at crutchfield, yeah just as much as i paid for mine..

You could try taking it to court to see if you get the points reduced, half the time I found the cops just want their money. i've gotten speeding tickets before and it's a 50/50 chance you'll get something reduced or thrown out, but it's worth the fight. And sometimes I've walked away with no points.. oh if you do fight it and you find yourself in front of a guy named "magistrate" ask for it to be held over for an actual judge! This is a trick they pull.. The magistrate has NO legal authority to find guilt and make you pay.. Tell them "I want this held over for court" and bam, that will be it.. I had that pulled on me before.. what a joke..

a good detector doesn't protect unless you're paying attention and i don't go like 20 over.. it's just keeping me aware and i like that.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LmdEWWDxSOp/c...d%7CBEL#see_all

if you're not in DC or Virginia then you're legal to buy one.. what's funny is that Crutchfield is IN virginia.. lol they sell them online and through the catalog but they can only ship them out..

Don't buy stuff detectors from Crutchfield, if you're going to make an investment on a radar detector, get the best: Valentine 1. Yes its $400 but its worth every penny. You won't regret it.
Ask Lance, I know he has a V1 and he loves it.

I grew up in Utah. They do just like California. You take a class, and the ticket doesn't show on your record. Did it back in 2002. Also, Radar detectors are definitely legal in Utah.

BTW, tCondor, what part of Utah are you in?
