Vibration in 5th gear

2612 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  KnowFear84
When I have the car in 5th gear at 60-70 MPH and have my hand on the shifter, it feels like it wants to kick itself out of gear. Does this sound normal? The shifter doesn't actually move, it just feels like it wants to. It doesn't happen in any of the other gears. The vibration is intermittent and only occurs when the throttle is adjusted. Is it anything to tell the dealer about? It doesn't really bother me but I definetly don't want it to pop out of gear when i'm least expecting it.

Thanks.

i feel that too, for me, it seems to go away at around 80+ and its more noticable (at any speed in which i have 5th engaged) if you apply pressure to the shifter or push the shifter forward slightly...

IMO its probably normal... dont take my word for it tho...
Yeah probably normal; every time i touch and let off the trottle the stick like moves forward and back a little. I find it entertaining and often do it...but thats just me. haha IT'S ALIVE! muahaha.. ok back to homework peace
If you hate your shifter forks, keep your hand on the stick while in gear. If you want your gearbox to last awhile, shift and put your hand back on the wheel where it belongs.

The shifter moves in response to engine torque, so as you get on and off the gas, it will move. It doesn't "want" to move itself out of gear. Your hand wants to move it out of gear just by being there. Get your hand off the shifter and have longer transmission life.
Yeah...what he said.
LOL. Thanks guys. I'll keep my hand on my girlfriend's knee, away from the shifter. I've never driven with two hands on the wheel, even in an automatic, except when turning that is. I've always felt comfortable that way.
Knee? OK, that's up to you, as long as you're not on the shifter.

Apparently you don't drive race cars, your hand would only leave that wheel to shift.
I just got my tc last week and I took it on it first long drive back up to University....I noticed the same vibration in 5th
