Update to my speeding ticket. How it ends..

Well, as some of you know I got my first speeding ticket while driving my brand new tC in the state of Utah where I just moved there. They mailed me the fine $92. I had two options, pay or go to court. Well I decided to fight it, and called the court. They told me to come by between so and so time and speak to the Hearing Officer. So I went there. I ask for the Hearing Officer, the clerk told me he's out. I was like "what?! I came for nothing." She then said she could possibly help me. So I told her the situation - I just moved here and not aware of the speed limits yet, so don't think it warrants a ticket. Then she looked at my ticket and notice I was speeding 9 miles over the limit, and she said "um.. yea the cops here are pretty strict aren't they." She then told me I had two options: 1) Set a court date and fight the ticket before a judge or 2) pay this fine and we'll dismiss the charge after 90 days. Then I told her "you mean I have to take another day off from work to fight this ticket which would cost me more money in the end?" So I chose option two. Pay them and they will dismiss it. So basically all they want is my money.

Yes. That's pretty much it.

A while ago the city of NY admitted, for the first time to public, that the NY's Finest (aka. cops) have to issue a certain number of tickets.

That's why my friend got a ticket for parking "too close to the hydrant" but he was parking to a meter! So they were ordered to find ways to screw us over, so Bloomberg can fix his budget, by taxing on us, one way or the other. I was issued a ticket for 1 minute over (11:30am street cleaning).

NJ highway patrol are the worst.. they're mean/big/rude... i was speeding b/c i was following a car b/c I was a little lost going towards the beach.. and under a bridge i see the cop, tried to slow down, but there was quite a traffic, and couldn't slam on my breaks, therefore he pulled me over.. and gave me a ticket for speeding.. $200 dollars.. would have been 4 points if i was a resident of NJ, TOO BAD I LIVE IN PA BI****.. lol.. so no points, but i did also have to pay the fine..

That sux. I have had three tickets before i got my scion. It is weord i get tickets in my truck and my old piece of #### car but not my brand new sports car.

Did you know that NJ has a law to make non-NJ people pay EXTRA For any tickets?

For non NJ who violates the same thing, it's almost double. Thats what my NJ friend told me.

yeah no kidding. NY should do the same to NJ cars. If the mayor needs to balance budget, why not do it to people who clog to Manhattan every day.

9 mph over the limit is speeding no matter how you look at it. The excuse of "I just moved to Utah and am unaware of the speed limit" is pretty lame. The court is not going to be concerned about your inconvenience when you broke the law.
Too many people today feel no accountability for their own actions. Your right, "The Man" has it out for you and your simply a victim being totally screwed over. Pay the fine or go to court. If there are no points either way you might as well pay because going to court will just end up paying additional costs.

If you don't want to get tickets, don't break the law. If you don't break the law, you don't have to worry about the officer's quotas.

damn straight. the speed limit is the max you are supposed to go in perfect conditions, in worse conditions you go slower. the way speed limits are meant to be used are if every condition is perfect, you can at max go the speed limit. if speed limits were used properly, then most people would go under the speed limit most of the time.

Wow, you two actually saying that you guys always drive within the speed limit, and that people should do that as well?

Highways in New York are 40MPH limit. Freeway is 60MPH.

Of course the traffic flow determines the speed. BUT I am VERY interested in seeing a town or city where people, or you two, actually drive the speed limit.

the one ticket i've gotten, the dumb cop wrote it out for the wrong county so i had to take time off work twice just to pay the stupid thing. that and i wasn't going near as fast as she said i was going. i'm not impressed with the highway patrol.
