Uh oh, Ed's audio shopping...

Crossfire VR705D 5ch. amp
Crossfire SQ 5.0 speakers up front
Crossfire SQ 6.0 speakers out back
single Crossfire BMF subwoofer w/box
A capacitor
Pioneer AVIC-D1

I was quoted $3265 for a system with these components (includes labor and all necessary material, including a custom bracket to secure the woofer due to my aggressive driving).

Nevermind the above system; please see below, but the rest of this post applies.

A- Does this system have good sound potential?

B- Is the price reasonable?

To note, I am not looking for overwhelming power or gut-whipping bottom-end. I want, clean, flat, natural sound with zero distortion that I can play and listen to at moderate to high (but not necessarily very high) volume levels with minimal fatigue.

Thanks, to those who can help me with this. I have no prior experience with CrossFire brand equipment (hell, up to date everything I've ever dealt with was Pioneer, Pioneer and Pioneer!) and admittedly, car audio is definitely not one of my forte's.

If it helps at all, to get an idea of what sort of sound I like, my home hi-fi consists of a digital front end, outputting to a Benchmark DAC1 via coax, which then feeds a PS Audio GCC-100 by silver balanced cables. The GCC-100 drives a pair of Paradigm Studio/20s via silver cabling, sitting on Atlantis Reference stands, unfilled, on spikes. This is what I listen to at home and love it, and makes the sort of sound that suits my taste. I like my bass fast and clean, undistorted and not head pounding, and my highs sweet and not brutally sharp (I am extremely sensitive to high frequencies).

If I'm going to spend this much money, it had better suit my tastes, no?

Big time.

Just ordered a Clarion DXZ655MP to tide myself over for now; some time maybe in a month or two I'm buying:

One Memphis Belle-600 (16-MCH600)
Two pairs CDT Audio EF-61NEO

But for subwoofer, I was hoping somebody could help me figure this out: which would be the best solution for me, just get an Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 and hook it up to the Memphis 600, get an Infinity BassLink (10") or get an Infinity Basslink II?

-Ed
I think you should go for an alpine type r 10"..

those are real thumpy and all around good(alot of techno listeners use it because it picks up that thump of a bass drum real quick). I dont know if you have heard a good system with a 10 inch in it.. im totally with you on wanting to hear the music and not alot of sub.. thats why I am only running 350watts of amp through my 600 watt rms subwoofer.
the reason I run such little power through the high power sub, is so it doesnt blow.. I blew my 10" JL sub. I no longer like JL at all.

Also, I think you might like the MB QUART products for speakers. From what I hear on feedback and people who bought them, is the sound quality is amazing.

But also keep in mind, your sub, is affected not only by the sub brand itself, but by the amp and the box.

Whenever you buy a subwoofer the installers who are building you a box should understand the square foot of air needed inside of the subwoofer box and understand what shape the box should be to your liking.(you can find this information in the subwoofer manual)

Keep in mind that with the wrong amounts of air or sizing, your sub could hit lower end bass lines or higher end bass lines. Thats why I am a firm believer in making the box right to the sound the person wants.

JUST MY "IMO".

I would go with the Infiniti Kappa Perfect speakers and a JL sub, 3v2? or the W7 but I think that's too big unless you're willing to fold down the seats.
But def go with a JL sub or two and a JL amp.
JL all the way!
Get a sub system like mine, Ed. You like the sound, no?

Trying to conserve space and have everything moveable in case I need it. I carry lots of people and things in my tC, unfortunately.

Well, a single 10" in a small box like the 2 mine are in is very movable. Sink the amp under the floor into the foam like I did too. Voila. Mucho space. I lost a lot of trunk space cuz I got 2 in there. 1 10" should be fine.

So how is that different from the subs that I was thinking about?

FYI, read up on JL, there actually not that good of subs. everyone just thinks they are because of the name and because they watch pimp my ride and they might use jl..

but for sound quality wise, read about sound installers (pro's who really know their stuff) JL's are horrible compared to alot of the things out there. even the w6 isnt that great compared to an alpine type r..

trust me, JL isnt the best around there for the price.

but whatever..

EDIT: I also am building a custom fiberglass enclosure for where the spare tire is.. you cant see any subwoofer what-so-ever..

totally fits without any holes or anything.. totally stealth..

Okay so so far I've sort of narrowed it down to four possible setups:

Choice A:
Infinity Kappa Perfect12.1D, $180
Infinity Kappa63.7I, four pieces @ $124 each or $496 total
Memphis Belle-600, $485
Approximate Total $1,161

Choice B
Infinity Kappa Perfect12.1D, $180
CDT Audio EF-61NEO, two pair @ $250/pair or $500 total
Memphis Belle-600, $485
Approximate Total $1,165

Choice C
Infinity Kappa Perfect12.1D, $180
MB Quart QSD 216, two pair @ $549/pair or $1,098 total
Memphis Belle-600, $485
Approximate Total $1,763

Choice D:
Infinity Kappa Perfect12.1D, $180
MB Quart QSC 216, price unknown, but supposedly about half the cost of QSD 216, so let's guesstimate $549 total
Memphis Belle-600, $485
Approximate Total $1,214

First question: Where the hell can I find an MB Quart dealer that carries the QSC 216s?!?

Second question: If you were to personally choose from one of these setups, which would you go with?

Thanks again to all who have been so helpful!

-Ed

EDIT: Updated prices on Choice C and D, since I found a site carrying the QSD 216s for less.

EDIT2: New woofer choice.

personally if I had to rock any of those choices it would most likely be Choice B for me
I would go with C or D..

I have heard many good things about MB Quart. Especially for that natural sound.

Are you sure about your sub?
Alpine components sound spectacular in the front of the tC (ask me and Jake) and are cheaper than the other stuff you're talking about.
