Can I upgrade a single disc 05 stereo to a sigle disc 06 stereo for my tc? I know it is a lot of work but is it the wiring the same? I want to change it b/c there is an aux port in the center console but I don't know if that can be installed since that probably requires extra wiring and drilling. I went to two dealers and one said it could be done and the other said it couldn't. I called scion and they said no b/c the stereos are quite different and are not compatible! Does anyone know what I can do? Has anyone upgraded there stereo to the 06 version?

I know this is probably not very helpful, but I checked with my dealer already and the service rep told me it'd cost a lot of money due to the wiring harness being different--the thing is, I'm not convinced. I will probably check with another dealer first before giving up, since I've seen a few '06 owners here in the forum that received their cars with '05 head units by mistake, but that doesn't necessarily mean an '06 unit can fit in an '05, either. '06's head unit probably has more signal lines coming out for the steering wheel controls and also sits farther in so the knob(s) don't hit the plastic door in front. Basically, I'm looking for a definitive answer to this question as well; I was thinking of swapping my '05 head unit and steering wheel for '06 head unit and wheel.

The only cost should be for an adapter that would connect the correct wires together! Every head unit aftermarket or not has the same wireing reqirements (i.e. power, ground, speakers, etc.), but the wires are different colors depending on the make. Just find a wire schematic for the head unit and the car and you should be able to connect the right wires together. Yes you might also have to get the stock hu brackets from an 06 to put the head unit in the right way. And the steering wheel controls which would cost a little bit of money. But this is all stuff that YES can be done without having to go through the dealerships!
