tC Tinting

I want to get the windows on my new tC tinted when it arrives in a few weeks. The dealer uses a tint of 30% on the sides and 20% in the back. That sounds a little light and they said they could go darker. However, I don't want it to look ghetto. I just want a decent amount of tinting without people saying "Bling, bling" or some crap like that when I drive by.

Could somebody please post some pics of their tinted windows and tell me what the percentages are?

Thanks in advance for the help!

hi.. im gonna get mine tinted too.. 30% is not too light.. i think its just right.. at least from the pictures i've seen. go to http://www.performancewindowtinting.com . i'm going to get mine tinted there.. they have a little rollover thing that lets you get an idea of how dark certain percentages are.. also if you go to the gallery you can view cars that they've done and they also state the percentages there. good luck

oh yes.. be careful too.. some states are very strict on their tint laws so going too dark may get you a nice fat ticket later on .. for instance virginia has a 50% for the front side windows and 30% for the back.. but im gonna get 30% on all of em :p ... what can i say.. i'm a rebeL

Four of us Atlanta tC owners got together on Saturday, and we parked our cars side by side (by side by side) and I took some pictures. As luck would have it, we each had a different level of tint -- 15%, 20%, 33%, and factory. Since that pretty much runs the gamut of what most (non-rap-star) people are looking at, I figured that would be helpful.

I'll try to post the picture when I get home from work tonight.
Actually in Virginia it's 43% front & side windows & 28% rear windows.... you can use 50% and 35% cause the windows themselves are actually 7%...... but that's what I was told by a professional.
oh interesting... i was just referring to a website i found that did tinting.. anyways.. i plan on doing 30% on everything.. hope i don't get any tickets..

As promised, here are some pics of various tint levels:

In that picture, from left to right: Factory, 15%, 33%, and 20%

From left to right: 20%, 33%, 15%, and factory.

Hope this helps!

oooh very nice.. hrmmmmm maybe its the picture but now you're making me rethink my 30%... but then again i don't really wanna get a ticket either... what's the law in your state basilisk?
As it turns out, the Georgia Supreme Court struck down the law restricting tint earlier this year. So, at the moment, there are no restrictions on tint in GA. The legal limit used to be 33%.
Thanks for the pic! I think I'm going to get 20% on the back and front strip, and 30% on the front/rear sides.
man i wish there was no restriction in va!!!! .... 30% seems a bit high now that i see it in a real photo.. but we'll see..... like i said i dont wanna get a ticket
I just got mine tinted a hour ago. 15% all around. I am still considering the strip on the front window, haven't seen anyone else with it yet.

But here in FL the limit is either 30 or 35% so mine is deffinately illegal. But on way home I had 3 cops driving all around me, beside me, behind me, other side. Not all at same time of course but in the amount of time it took me to get home. Not one looked twice. So unless they are looking for something to give you a ticket for, or your giving them a hard time, I don't see why they would care.

But those DOT officers, they look specifically for stuff like this. I would just watch out for them if you see em.
In Georgia, GSP officers were all over people with illegal tint before the law was struck down. I think it just depends on the cop, the day, the other stuff on your car, and how you're driving.
so the lower the percentage, the darker the tint? i thought it was the other way around but it makes sense now. that 15% on that black tc looks really good. too bad CA has strict tint laws that prohibit any tinting of the front windows. but i heard somewhere (on here i think it was) that in CA if the car's front windows were tinted at the factory and the car came that way when you bought it that it is legal. is that true? sounds weird but if it's true, you could tint the front windows and then pretend the car came like that from the factory
yea i think in most states if the car was tinted at the factory or if you have a permit for having them tinted an illegal shade then it's ok.. u usually have some kind of permit or sticker on the plate i think...

kinda like limos and hearses (spellin?)

I'm in CA as well...do you know what the legal tint is? I think it's like 60% or something. There's no point in tinting the windows 60%.

If you look around there are TONS of cars in CA with illegal tints, and they dont' get pulled over for it. I think I'm still going to go with 30% on the front sides.
How do you know whether other cars get pulled over?
in PA (where i am right now) it's about 70% ... my friend got his done 20% all around .. so far he hasn't gotten caught but HIS friend who also got 20s got pulled over already for a nice fat ticket...they're both in philly and usually philly cops don't give a crap about stupid traffic violations like tints... they have more important issues to worry about but then again... they ARE philly cops

CA legal tint is 70% I think... but it doesnt say it on the DMV website... I think it says no tint is allowed on the driver and passenger front windows. I got 35% on mine and they are not very noticeable. Just don't do anything stupid and the cops should not bother you too much.
i think imma go with 30% .. ceramic tint
