Stock sound system sucks

9086 Views 65 Replies 28 Participants Last post by  sciontc_mich
Hello - I love my TC that i've had for a few months, except for the crappy sound system. I think Scion dropped the ball on the stock sound system, it should at least be slightly amplified like most other stock systems. Is there any way to tweek the stock system to make it sound any better?
thanks!

....you have got to be kidding me, first post and you broke two golden rules you didn't search and you didn't post in the audio section......

To answer you breifly no you cannot tweak it, just replace it like so many of us have. Drop ~$2000 and you will have a killer system.
yeah that's what i figured, that sucks

i bet you have it in tC mode... switch it to xB or xA and it'll sound much better
The tC has one of the best stock systems I have heard. RTFM, and listen to what tCfiend said.
What are you comparing the tC's stero to? How many stock car sound systems have you honestly heard that's better and costs under 30k?

how do you change it to xB or xA mode?
I'm surrounded by audiophiles, it's getting scary. I found the tC stock single-disk HU coupled with stock speakers perfectly adequate. Added a small 200W sub to give it a little depth and that is keeping me happy for 18 months so far.

Press and hold SSP, then turn volume knob to change the car type.

Hold down the ssp button for three sec and it should beep and then you can use the vol buttons to change the setting. I prefer xa

why doesn't it mention this in the owner's manual. I swear i never read anything about this! I do like the clarity, but i just want it to sound fuller and a bit bassier. should i go with xA or xB?

It mentions it in the manual that comes with the stereo. I found it by accident though

As for the stock sound system, the car I had before I got my tc (89 camry-tank) had 1 working speaker in the passenger side. Comparing the two is like well, comparing apples and a fully working stereo with working speakers and a subwoofer.

I thought the stock system was pretty good. Definitely sounds better on xA mode. Doesn't compare to any decent aftermarket HU, though.

The stock speakers are pretty decent. Add a sub for some bump and you're golden.
xA mode if definately a little louder, but I like xB better because of the added bass. depends on what type of music you're listening to.

Did you add a sub? If so what kind? And do you have to get an amp if you get a sub?
Look in my profile. I changed out the stock HU to an aftermarket, added an amp and 2 10" subs.

Even with the stock paper cone speakers the sound quality is good, and the subs make it bump nicely.
i just put in an alpine head unit and it made a world of a difference even with the stock speakers, if you ever have the cash and still arnt satisfied i would reccomend getting an aftermarket hu. i used xb when i had my stock hu and i thought it sounded a lot better then tc mode. actually, either one sounds better then tc IMO
I did a similar thing, tried a new headunit, wasn't happy, got some speakers, sounded a little better, added a sub/amp, sounded a ton better, added a amp for the speakers, car sounds amazing!!! I have 40x4 rms on the speakers and 600 rms to the sub, wonderful sounding and I would suggest it to anyone.
loud isn't always "better"

same goes with exhausts.
