Replacement Headlamp Bulbs

4321 Views 19 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  damien1023
I've searched through the forums about replacing your headlight bulbs, and I've seen a lot of different opinions about which one is best to go for. So, I went through to see what people used on this forum and thought I would make this poll to see what the more popular of them all is.

If I missed any other popular brands, let me know. Thanks!

mTec all the way baby I love how they look and I have never had a problem, the silverstars are good too, but if you want more blue in it then the mTec would be my choice and I chose them.
I have SilverStars on the tC right now, but only because I had them left over from the Matrix. I would not buy them again - it's just absolutely not worth it - just like any other bulb. Stock bulbs provide just as much light and cost 10x less.
fot those who have mTec Bulbs, aren't those high wattage and if so won't that cause you wiring to get burnt. I would love to have lights that are have more of a blue tint but don't want to make anything go wrong
I was kind of leaning towards the mTec bulbs, too. The ones I was looking at are 55W bulbs and I think they need to be 51W.

On ebay, however, you can buy a wire harness upgrade for like 10 bucks. They're made by Nokya and they advertise that they can handle bulbs of up to 100W.
I just received my xd5 bulbs from ebay yesterday. I can't take pictures of it yet because no camera. So far I like it. Its clear white when i drive at night instead of the ugly yellowish. 27.99 shipped for high and low beams. pretty good deal.

Yes, at least all the MTEC bulbs I've seen.

P.S. MTEC products are crap.
how come mtec products are crap? Is it just from your experience? I might just go with the sylvanias if mtecs really are crap.

Even though some people think the bluish tint is ricy, I still think they look pretty cool.

Using higher-wattage bulbs than your car is meant to handle will burn your wires, although this is not limited to MTEC's bulbs. However, I had a bad experience with one of MTEC's windshield wipers BREAKING during normal usage -- while I was on the road -- and resulting in my windshield getting scratched.

I've never had any experience or seen the mTec bulbs in person personally, but for the wipers breaking during normal use, thats pretty bad. Did you get a refund? or at least filed a complaint to them?

As for me, the xd5 bulbs I got are 55w for low beam and 65w for high beams. I know that the wattage for the tC is 51w low and 61w high, but how much do you think 4w more would do to the wiring? I was recodmended to get these from a friend. He had 80w low and 100w high on his 2000 accord before switching to HIDs. He had is for a year and it never did anything to his wiring. Hopefully it won't happen to mine either. *knocks on wood*
I highly doubt that 4W extra will make any difference. If you're worried, take a look at the connectors and wiring to the headlights periodically.
My name is Scott Brown owner of www.LuminicsBulbs.com we offer a full 1 year warranty on our bulbs. We have some reviews being posted on www.scionlife.com right now if you would like to look those over Only happy customers.

The most popular for Scion owners are the Ultra Violet and the JDM Yellows. They also love teh Hyper Whites but the other two seem to be the most popular.

I just bought the Silverstars, at 20 bucks a pop they arent cheep, but I'm happy that they at least match the light output of the stock bulbs, and are a pure white, not a yellow. We'll see if I stick with them. I really want HID's, but thats after the turbo, rims, coilovers, leather seats, and passenger ejection seat.
Scott,
Could you please tell me the wattages for your 9005 & 9006's?
Thanks,

the 9006 are 55watts and 9005 are 65 watts
GET SOME HID'S!!!!!
IPF HiR $120/pair
I bought the luminics pure blue bulbs. They look pretty hot! As for installation, it's really easy, and there are instructions in the manual. Just don't handle the bulbs with your bare hands, I hear that the oil from your hands can cause the bulbs to burst when they are in use.
