Rear defogger?

2278 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  sciontc_mich
Hey everyone,
First time poster.
I'm pretty much 99.9% sure I'm gonna buy a tC.

But my question is about the rear defogger. Is it the same as a defrost or not? If not, will it defrost the back window some?

I live in Chicago and a rear defroster on the back window is a must. TOo much snow and too much ice.

Any idea if thats an option to be added later?

Thanks! (on behalf of us cold weather types),

Tiki

Welcome to the site!!! Well I know the tC has rear defrosters.... defoggers on the other hand, I've never heard of before. Here's a pic of mine.

"Rear defroster" and "rear defogger" are the same, at least as far as I can tell. I remember that according to the owner's manuals for my last two cars (both Corollas), there were tons of notices saying that the "rear defogger" was not to be used to clear ice off the window -- probably for liability reasons. I used it to clear ice off the window and it worked just fine. =P
Dont let the rear-defroster be a deal-breaker on buying a car. Get an ice scraper...... -t
OK cool. thanks guys.
I'm so getting a tC....hehe
Hey tikitommy, welcome to the site. As marty said, defogger and defroster is the same thing. Last weekend I actually got some frost on the hatch when I was in upstate NY, flipped that baby on, and it was gone in a matter of seconds. It also works really well to get rid of the morning dew, which is a pain. So yeah, I guess you could say this car has both. :c)
Hey russian who is that in ur avatar??
it's Borat from Kazakhstan. (Ali G show)

They're probably just afriad of the cold glass being heated too quick and cracking.
I was just worried it was some half-ass defroster with the name defogger. Sure i could use an ice scraper, but when its 0 degrees out there, I don't feel like scraping forever. lol.
yeah i finally was able to use the rear defroster (for fog yesterday morning).. and it worked extremely quickly! so yeah it's nice.. i'd say it's quicker than my old honda civics (which was fast).. and the front defogger/defroster (call it what ya like).. works very quickly too..
