Couple questions to try and pin point your problem...
1. What is the Ohm rating on your sub? (2,4,8)
2. Are you bridging your amp, or is it a Mono sub amp?
If your sub is two ohm and the amp is only 4 ohm stable bridged that would cause it to shut off.
Another thought could be the ground, maybe try a seatbelt bolt or something like that, i have always had good luck with those.
