power door locks

Is it supposed to lock after a little while if it's unlocked but none of the doors are opened, or something? Cuz on several occasions, I'd unlock it, but stand around and talk to friends for a few minutes, and I noticed that it would lock itself. Just found it kinda cool since I didn't know I had that feature.

No it doesn't, there is nothing wrong.

Yes, if you unlock it with the remote and then don't open any dors it will relock itslef after 30 seconds.

If you don't open a door within 30 seconds of unlocking with the remote it relocks the doors automatically.

I'd love to add the auto-lock feature that would activate when the car starts moving.

My dad's '02 Camry does that.

I've always hated that option. Why would you want to lock out the rescue crew when your life may depend on immediate action?

My neighbor was at a light about a mile from the area where I live, a car stopped behind him, guy walked to the passenger side, opened the door and stuck a gun in his face asking for money. If the door was locked, the guy would have heard him fumbling with the handle and could have had a chance to smash the gas pedal.

That's friggin scary. But then again, if the guy was planning on shooting, he would have shot through the window...so keeping the door locked won't exactly keep you safe. But yes, I can see your point.

Neither carjackers nor rescue crews are shy about busting a window.

Takes 2 seconds longer to bust the window and open the door from inside vs. just pulling the handle. And if you are being jacked - you can use these 2 seconds...

No way in heck would I drive around here with my doors unlocked. I have had a hooker jump in my car just for a ride a long time ago, and I am a woman. Just scared the bejeevers out of me. This town has pockets of good and bad about every half mile. My daughter had someone try her door handle to steal her car the other night, and she was IN the car in our driveway. We live in a very nice neighborhood.
Not trying to start a Can You Top This crime thread, but I have to weigh the pros and cons of this. Hope the rescuers can kick in the glass.

I broke out a window with my head. It's not something you want to do. Neither is being showered with tempered glass chunks.

Maybe I live a charmed life, but I've never been jacked, never seen anyone get jacked, and never known anyone who got jacked. I also don't live in Nigeria, so my fear of being carjacked is pretty tiny. I'm a lot more likely to get in an accident (I've been in a few of those in my life) and I've had to pick glass out of my face for the last 13 years.

Which risk is prevalent where you are? I guess that determines whether you lock your doors while in your car or not. It just doesn't happen here on a scale to even make the news except once in the last 25 years, and that was because the guy broke the window, pulled the driver out of the car and shot him in broad daylight. The locked door didn't impede him in any way.

My doors are always locked when I am driving whether I am in a good neighborhood or a bad one.

Not a viable option in CA. You have to be a cop or be very close to the County Sheriff to get a CCW in CA. Just another reason I wouldn't mind moving.

lol... I live in Texas, so I think all you have to do is be breathing to get a concealed weapons permit I think.
