I don't mind the hand-wash places--I usually go to more reputuable places of course--usually closer to a higher-income neighborhood, and ones that usually have alot of higher-end cars going through it. The one I used to go to charged 10.95, but they did an excellent job. It did get expensive after a while though-- with tip it came out to about $13.
Now, I just go to a self service place, bring my own bucket and wash mitts (they actually don't allow bucket washing there, but there's no way i'm using that brush!) and just do it myself--costs about $4 total (not including supplies) and my time.
I may just go back to the car wash place again though (once a month maybe?) once things start to get busy again.
