Painting my factory wheels....

Ok, so i've decided to paint my stock wheels bronze. I bought 3 cans of the dupli color bronze and 2 cans of the clear coat. I know i got more than I need, but I'd rather have too much than too little. Now i know I need to clean the surface and i have alcohol and Prep-Sol and I also bought a box of the Red 3M scuff pads. Is there anything else I should consider before tackling this project? I want it to come out good. I thought about an adhesion promotor but duplicolor's website says that this is not necessary. What do you think? Any help or feedback on my color choice??

I am hoping for it to turn out something like this.... (note: the picture is not my car, it is just the pic I used for the chop)

I would worry about heat and that paint, i think you would be better off getting them powdercoated.
i think you should leave the lip alone. it will create a distinct difference , which IMO would look better.
There really isn't a lip to leave alone. And honestly, I think if anything it would clash... so i'm painting the whole thing. And the paint is made for wheels. I painted my stock wheels on my talon with good results and never had any problem with heat or anything. Powder coating is very much over rated... and the results with painting can be every bit as good if done correctly. And part of the fun is doing it yourself. I'll post pics of the whole process when i start it this weekend.

good luck with that... can't wait for the pics
No doubt, looking forward to seeing how it looks.
You can definitely do a good job painting wheels at home with parts store paint, and it looks like you are coming prepared. Let me know if you have any specific questions - my buddy has a lot of experience with this stuff and I can get him to help.
Yeah, I'm definitely interested to see your progress/results. Good luck. I've been debating painting vs powder-coating my stock rims for a while now.

Hey thanks. Much Appreciated. I'm going to be taking my time and going painstakingly (sp?) slow with the whole process. Tire shine is now my enemy... I am going to be degreasing my wheels and tires for hours because of that crap. LOL... i'll keep you up to date with pics and hopefully make a "how to" out of it. Thank again for your help everyone.

Update** Ok, so I sprayed a bit of the Duplicolor Bronze wheel paint and decided it looks more brown than bronze. Not horrible.. but not what I wanted. So I just bought some VHT Gold wheel paint and had it shipped next day air which cost me $40. We'll see how this color is. LOL...
Congrats on your daring to be different. Innovation is what drives the custom tuner market. Sounds like you've got all the info and stuff you need, hope it turns out good. Your Photoshopped pic looks pretty good. There was some dude on here that sprayed his wheels black, but kept the lip (sort of) , the lugs and the center spoke OE. I have to say, his wheels look badass from a distance, up close you can see that there is no lip persay and that he just taped off the end of the spokes, but still it looks good. Before I'd even saw his I'd wanted to do the same type paint job, except Im just gonna leave the center piece and the lugs unpainted, I'm leaning towards black or gunmetal. My boy painted his EVO (325whp) wheels bronze/copper, and while that color wouldn't be my first choice, it still looks pretty good...unique. I dont know about powder coating, but I know that spraying your wheels can give you that custom look you're going for with out having to take out a loan to buy new rims. Let me know how it works out, I'll be doing mine soon as well, I'll have pics of my tint, audiobahn system, B&M short shifter, DC sports strut bar, smoked heads and tails and painted wheels up soon.

Another update...

I'm going to be painting them with an air gun and in a paint booth now.... pays to work at a dealership. So, with all that they should come out great. I'll post pics. Oh yeah, and VHT paint can't be shipped in time, so i'm improvising....
we'll see!
