225 will work... it will bulge outwards but it will work. I'd only feel safe using the correct size tire.

look guys, i know that that web site doesnt have the size tires i got on there (and we were lookin on the web before i got them and they werent on there but they were in a catalog that the tire shop had) but im telling you, the STICKER on the tire said it was meant for a 7" rim. THATS why i got them. i have been a mechanic in a performance shop (imports) for 5 yrs, and went to motorcycle mechanics institute in AZ, AND i am a helicopter mechanic (67U,67T chinook, blackhawk mechanic) in the military (national guard) since 1998. so i know my way around a car. i understand what your telling me about the tire size. and actually, the tires were the same height. i dont know how, but they were. i made sure EVERYTHING was perfectly ok, before i got them mounted. even the guy at the tire store was amazed how well they fit. ill get some pics up soon, i need to buy a digital camera anyway.

That's odd -- I have 225s on my stock 17x7s, and they fit fine. Not only do they not "bulge," but they actually look normal and form-fitting (unlike the stock 215s).

Stock 215's seem to curve inward. The Avon Tech M550 215's I have are a straight sidewall.

You made a very bad choice. Those tires on 7" rims are dangerous to yourself and others. No tire manufacturer would recommend that combination for good reason. You'll find out why...
America's Tire Co. won't even install tires that size on a wheel that size. I was in there one time when a guy wanted that done and they flat out refused, saying he'd get himself killed and a relative would sue.

No. 215/45/17 is almost exactly the same diameter as 245/40/17. Speedometer and odometer read correctly with either of those tires.

I just read the Tyre Bible. I guess I shoudl have before posting. There is only a .04% error with 245/40/17 sized tires. Nice.
