Offset?

Hey all, I'm a newb about wheels and tires, what exactly does offset mean as far as wheel sizes. Also will 18"x7.5 +40 fit on the tC?

Check out this link for a pretty decent discussion about all the different specs for wheels.

BTW, the wheels you are asking about will fit just fine if they have a 5 x 100 PCD.
