Mounting underbody lights

2633 Views 12 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  LoopyLady_1
My new BSP scion should be here anytime. One of the mods I've always wanted to do is an underbody neon light kit. I know their kinda tacky, but if porperly mounted and adjusted I think it could look damn sweet. What i'm not sure about is whether I'd have to drill mounting holes into the car somewhere to mount the lights. Has anyone here ever installed or had any contact with a streetglow blue/gold line underbody light kit? If so, any knowledge about how it mounts would be great. Or if someone knows where the instructions are posted online, that would be great.

maybe try their website or just buy a kit and check out the instructions.
The blue line is less expensive and has transformers on each bulb. Not as bright, but you can do some neat things with the music interface. The gold line has one transformer, the installation is a bit tougher and they are brighter and stronger with a lifetime breakage warranty. I'd go gold.
I hate those stupid neon tubes!!! I went through 2 sets on my custom s10 and I used the gold line first, two transformers stopped working (a friend had the same problem) and then broke a tube and then I had blue line and one tube broke and another burnt the transformer I suppose. I think I will go for the LED kits, individual bulbs no glass tubes to worry about. I'm still doin my homework on LED systems tho.

DO NOT BUY LED UNDERBODY KITS!!! THEY SUCK MAJOR ASS.

I have had both types on my Integra. The neon is so much better. With the LED kit, 1/3 are burned out when you get them and you can see the individual LEDs on the ground. Total waste of hard earned money.
I've had both led's and neon tubes. I have also installed both. The Leds are nice had to break but there is alot of wiring to do. Also and new set of neons you will have a warrenty on. Street glow gold series is very bright. There is no warrenty on the neon tube if the glass tube is broke, but if it just goes out it is covered. They are fairly simple to install. The mount with just a few clamps and screws. If you have any other questions just pm me and i'll tell you a little more. Also if you need to find some where to get them let me know and ill get you a good deal.

Hahah... rice doesn't quite cover it. I mean, in all seriousness... its not like they're even unique anymore... everyone's seen them, and they're just not impressive anymore. Plus, no matter if they're LED or neon, they break, burn out, and cause extra strain on your battery and alternator. And just think... how often are you actually going to use them? But if you must install them, do it right, and do it carefully. Meaning no hanging wires, and no "toaster" look where you can see the bulbs...

Sorry to say but neons draw less than 6 amps of current from your bat. you could leave them on all night and not have a problem with your car starting up. LED's dont break like the neon tubes do if the plastic of the tube protecting the leds breaks the leds still work. I've broke on completly in half and it still works. Also and ricer not quite
i beg to differ, although that is my opinion. To each his own, I guess. I just don't see the point of drawing so much attention to the car at night, it's a distraction for others on the road...it's like wearing a billboard saying 'LOOK AT MEEEEE!!" I see no sense in underbody lights. If you want to make your car look like it's "hovering" instead of actually driving on the road, just get one of these:

Now THAT'S not rice.

BRILLIANT IDEA!!!! wtr
I'm thinking about getting the lights for my car, but only for when I'm with the other Scions in my local scion owners club....

We go to a local car show every Saturday (well, we're supposed to but I've only been able to make it to a few).... So far I'm the only tC in the group, and I'm also the only one without major mods to the car (wheels, Altezza lights, sub/amp, and light kits).

When we're there at night and everyone (not just the Scions) lights their cars up, and my Flint Mica - which obviously doesn't stand out at night...ESPECIALLY when parked next to boxes - looks a little lonely.

I'd never use them for driving around (it's illegal in VA anyways)...just for when I'm parked somewhere, shooting the $hit with friends, or showing off the car.

However, although I'd like to get the lights I have never, ever messed with anything electrical and I'm worried that I'll completely screw something up. Getting under the car is a VERY big deal to me...messing with electrical things is even bigger...

Sooner or later I'll get up the nerve though...I'm thinking of Cold Cathode lights for the interior (found a really nice kit on Ebay that has a switch that pops right into the dash near the side mirror controls) and LEDs for the underground (since they don't break as easily)...and they looked brighter on the xB I saw, sitting right next to one with Neons....

::rambling off:: Hehe...sorry...
