Lo Bux, I got a question for you. im looking into this flywheel business cuz from from everything i've read, along with the TRD springs and great tires this seems like an awesome upgrade that frees up alot of power rather than going with overated bolt-ons. however i have a few questions.

1. does the Flywheel increase or decrease the engine life cuz i would think that being that the engine is spinning less mass that it would be able to last longer however since the engine speed decreases faster too i thought that may have a bit of a negative impact sum parts surrounding the flywheel or further down the line of power distribution.

2. is the speed deceleration drastic compared to stock.? i dont want my girlfriend tossed all around in my car cuz of the flywheel swap.

3. is engine lug eliminated and also bogging? of course i dont mean from upshifting entirely too early or driving in 5th at 20 MPH anything dumb like that. i mean from 0 mph

4. LASTLY, do i need to change out the flywheel after a while. does it wear down?

after searching and reading of all the posts i found these questions werent quite directly answered.

anybody else with this mod please feel free to respond too. i just know that Lo Bux has nothing but good things to say about it and its perked my interest.

I'll answer some of your questions, and lance will come in later and correct my mistakes.

1. No, the flywheel will not change the life of the engine.
2. No, the speed deceleration is not drastic. It's really nothing.
3. Your car shouldn't be bogging... Give it more gas. The flywheel has nothing to do with this. The lag is eliminated, however.
4. The flywheel will last the life of the car. I'm sure it wears down eventually, but not before so much other crap breaks the car is garbage.

Fair dealer estimate? Anywhere between 600-1500 bucks. It's going to be an ass ton, I assure you.

dang...that sucks out loud. maybe my boy that works up at the honda dealership to put it in for a major cut and we'll call it a "project". i wish i could do it myself but im a bit squeamish and might F up my transmission. thanx everybody

it shouldnt be an ass-ton unless you are easily overcharged. it would cost no more than a clutch job would, and even at toyota dealer standard rate of 85 bucks an hour, at a six hour job, it is still $510. paying any more than 600 would be dumb.
lo bux did flywheel installs for eric, wolo, zygote55, me, and himself, with the assistance of those respective party's. by the time we got to mine, it was smooth sailing. realistically, it is about a 3 hour job max.

Won't the car idle ruffer with a lighter flywheel? Also, won't you notice your mistakes when you shift (the not so smooth ones) with a lighter flywheel too? But yes, I've thought of having it done.... so where does lance live again? hehe

the idle will still be normal. when it comes to noticing when you mess up a shift yes it will be more obvious bc the motor revs up quicker. but its still not going to hurt the motor bc it has a rev limiter. the only time you have to worry about the car going over the rev limiter is if your racing and you down shift instead of upshift. i've had 2 friends do that and it cost both of them the motor. and constant jokes forever from the rest of us

the lightened flywheel also allows the motor to rev down faster as well.

those of you that have a lightened flywheel how do you like them. i've been thinking of maybe getting one in the future but haven't made up my mind yet. i had a friend who put one in his tiburon GT V6 but i never got to drive it after he installed it to see what type of difference it made.

I have both a stage 2 clutchmasters clutch and the fidanza fly wheel. But to my misfortune they still havent been installed so i cant be one of the happy guys who have installed it

. But it will be installed soon as one of the guys i work with comes back from TDY to las Vegas ill take pics and ill let everyone know how happy i am with it and then I will be one of the happy people with it installed.

The car actually idles smoother. Everything about it is smoother witht he lighter flywheel.

i am very pleased with the results. the throttle response is tighter, it is easier to rev match, but i stalled my car for about 3 days after the install since the revs drop off faster. had to learn my car a little again. good price, great mod.

what would you say the HP gain to the wheels is? about? or at least a percentage increase based on feel.

a lightened flywheel does not create HP. all you are doing is reducing the rotating mass, allowing the HP that is there to work less to do the same job. so, things are spinning faster, but there is not more power being created. an inertial dyno will likely show an increase in WHP, but it is a false indication. if that number is interesting to you, someone on scionlife posted he saw a 6hp gain or something like that. not that he did get more HP, but thats what was registered. for the record, a shift in engine temp, ambient temp, etc... can show a 6HP gain on an inertial dyno.
you will feel the difference, but i am unable to say how. i know that after the flywheel / before my supercharger moriarty and i did a series of rolling starts. mine with flywheel, his without. i consistently pulled about a hood length on him. so, yeah, its noticeable in a straight line, and very noticeable when rev matching.
thats the best i have, sorry. maybe someone else in here with one can decipher what the hell i just rambled and spit it out clearly.

thats what i was going for Damon. (not to be smart or anything) but thats why i said HP to the wheels. cuz i know it doesnt creat new HP gains but it frees up HP lost in the drivetrain. i appreciate the education tho....its always good to make sure u know sumthing=) HOWEVER knowing that u were a hood length faster is Definately good knowledge. that helps towards exactly what i was tryna know. THANKS!

Need quicker feet eh? Just wish I could test drive one with it installed. Do you really think it's a good mod for the money? I'm thinking SC & Bigger Clutch first, but the flywheel is on the back of my mind.

1. No. Lighter rotating mass usually increases service life.

2. No. Deceleration isn't dramatically changed.

3. No. You can still lug the engine, and you can bog more easily if you are not paying attention.

4. No. The flywheel has a replaceable insert that takes all the wear, so if the insert gets scarred, you just buy another one for about $100 and replace it. It's actually cheaper than most OEM flywheels.

It's one of the very few mods that doesn't have a real downside.
