LCD screen in the tC?

As I was watching another wholesome episode of "Pimp My Ride" (that xzibit always cracks me up), I couldn't help but notice the excessive amount of LCD screens of various sizes that "Mad Mike" always hooks people up with. I began to wonder: "where do they get theses LCD's?" I was pretty sure they didn't just stick a computer monitor in someone's car, or rip the screen off of a portable DVD player. So, after countless minutes of internet research, I found several sites which sell general use LCD displays, plain and simple, with nothing more than a power supply and an input. They range in size from about 6-in to 45-in, and in general they are pretty reasonably priced (for LCD screens, of course). So here's the question: Where would you put one in a tC? The only place I could think of to put one was to remove the flip down mirrors and put them there, but you could only fit a tiny little screen in that space. I wouldn't want to put them in the trunk space, because who stands outside their parked car to watch tv? I guess in the headrests is always an option... What do you think?

lol, the lcd screens that "<Mad Mizzle> uses are regualr lcd tv's found at best buy. BUT, if you want the tvs in the visors, they sell them in the visor already. go to your local audio store and they will most likely have them, or wait a little bit, and ill give you a site that has great prices on all audio things.
Yeah, but that's cheating. I'm speaking hypothetically, as in "assume that I have the knowlege and motivation to do something really wild and original." Like how about on the floor of the front seats? You could put plexiglass over them...
yes, but what about realism. youd be stepping on your screens.
too true...
ha, what about in place of a sunroof? Just play a video of a sunny summer day when you get sick of the winter greys. Or maybe you could take a couple of 15"s and embed them in the rear seats. No one sits back there anyway. Oh, and here's a link to one fo the sites I found: LCD company
(or you can type in "open frame LCD" or "panel mount LCD" into google)
we have had really bad dealings with that site. thats all im going to say.
hahah i don't see the point to have a lcd tv in cars all together.. my 2 cents
^^^ I'm with you on this one.
But... but.... it's so pimp! All the cool kids have LCD's in thier cars! If I only had one, maybe they would like me...

doesn't mad mike put them in the trunk and the headrests of the backseats and stuff? if you wanna be pimp like him, that's what he does. i believe his rationale has been that you are mostly having it to show off--ie let the guy behind you wish he had lcds as he watches yours while stopped behind you at a red. i kinda remember him doing the little shoulder brush thing after that. lol

lcds and cars don't make much sense personally. i think its tough to find a place to put em cuz the car was meant for driving, not really watchin tv. u could just get a video ipod or put them in the floor like you said. mad mike put some on the floor on the outside of the car cuz the guy was a mechanic and it was so he could watch tv while workin under his car. i guess you would have to replace the plexi often cuz of scratches tho... sidenote: don't a lot of them pimped out rides end up on ebay anyways?
^^^well said
If I got my ride Pimped, I would sell it on ebay.
^^^ absolutely. a car that you coudn't sell for $100 becomes worth... well, a lot more. And it'd be ridiculous to drive that thing (and keep it from being vandalized/stolen)... you're better off selling the thing on ebay and buying a new (better) car.
flush 7 inches in console and that would be 1 st place to start!
With a small amount of modification the Kenwood DDx-7015 fits nicely into the tC dash, just ground out the break wire and you have you own dvd player right there, add Nav and never get lost again. You can also add, Sirius, and Ipod adapter ect. With a little older 6.5 inch screen you can put two into the head rest and feed video from the front or plug into the 2nd av inputs and use your own xbox PS2 ect. Its also really nice with the dual zone controls, which allows you to play dvd on the back 2 speakers and listen to music on the front 4, with a cool balancing control so you you can make it that the front can't hear the back and vis versa. Anyways if you ever have kids in the back seats they love it, and its a lot of fun to. specially if you do it yourself, cost a few extra bucks when you break something but you'll never do it wrong again. Any ways have fun,

~Ben~

everyone should go to mp3car.com and see what those computer nerds do to their cars. for the tc i'd mount a 6-7" touchscreen behind the door in the dash and hook a computer up to it. dvd, gps, mp3, everything.
^ I 2nd that notion. That website is great, good resource for info and amazing installs. Also, the book that they have @ their store, car pc hacks, is a great read; definitly recommened it to anyone wanting to put a little I.C.E. in their ride. I also had the idea of a touchscreen 7" lcd w/a computer hooked up. Mainly because I get everything I need in one nice system; all my mp3's from home and gps mainly. And I spend a little more time in my car during my sometimes long breaks between classes (and my even longer breaks before classes since I leave early to beat the horrible traffic) so I'll have something to do.. Also if I have to type up a last minute paper I can too =P. I totally agree with it not being necessary and that many people throw tv's in their cars for no reason (like the range rover I saw yesterday playing music videos on 4 screens, and only the driver in the car). But when I look @ things like the kenwood/eclipse/pioneer 7" touchscreen navigation unit prices, and compare them with the bare minimum I'd need for a computer to play mp3s and run a navigation unit.. Plus ability to upgrade and expanability.. I'd say the carputer is definitly the way to go.
