I just installed the INJEN CAI last night and all I can say is ... OH MY F*CKING GOD! What a differnce especially in 2nd and 3rd gear in the 4500 to 5500 RPM Range. The sound is incredible. I waited almost a year for the damn AEM that will never come out. I am telling you, this is one of the best bang for the buck MODS available. I paid $230. plus $17.00 shipping and insurance off of Ebay. I got it from California in about 3 days. I decided to have it installed as a short ram after talking to a Toyota master tech and the problems he's seen with installing the full unit up front. He's seen customers who have installed the full unit having engines bogged down with water making the engine stall. I don't need that with the rain we get in Chicago. When I take my ride to Black Hawk Farms Raceway, I'll install the full unit.

Those rims are so nice. If i see your car parked somewhere at night i probly steal them.

Wow that was a good deal. I've been a fan of Injen technologies and for $250 shipped, thats going to be my next mod.

iono, i had it as short ram and when i put it as a cai its much faster. the sound isn't as loud as short ram but if you're impressed with how it is as a short ram then you'd be more impressed with the full two pieces installed.

as a short ram the low end response was much better but as a cold air, it has more power overall. i guess its your pick. i like mine as a cold air the way the intake was orginally designed for. but props to you for a nice looking ride minus the stickers.

I just had mine installed yesterday & I love it... are you guys getting the high pitched "suck" sound when you hit the gas?

yea i get the high pitch sucking, almost like a turbo sound heh, but i think thats from the throttle body if i remember correctly.

Oh yeah...I also get that great high pitch sucking sound, alot like a turbo.
I was driving behind a Porche 911 last night and I gunned it in 2nd right up to his bumper. He looked in his mirror like "What the F*ck was that???" As I pulled up next to him he gave a thumbs up. I did the same. I am really liking this CAI. Might install it as a full CAI just to see the differnce. Just a little scared because I dremeled out the front right air intake in the bumper and it suppose to rain all weekend here. Will see.

The full CAI's whistle too. I think its because there is less baffle in the aftermarket intakes.

250 for a piece of metal and a cone?!

Sounds like a huge rip to me, the stock intake looks pretty good on these, much like the SHO, direct cold air, how could getting hot air sucked into the intake help anything?

Good points all. My bet is, if you actually measured the performance (not allowing yourself to be influenced by the increased noise), it would be a near zero gain and might even actually be a loss.

I'm still failing to understand why I'd want a metal pipe on my intake anyway. Plastic and carbon fiber seem much better materials for this application.

Last but not least, remember the manufacturer has to meet noise specifications. The entire car is measured for compliance, and intake noise is one of the most diffcult things to make quiet. You can bet the engineers spent a significant amount of time making the intake both quiet and powerful.

I've seen LOTS of guys put aftermarket intakes and exhausts on motorcycles over the last 25 years and LOSE power. Of course this only shows up with a watch and a timed course. When they put the devices on their machines they declare them an improvement because the thing "sounds" a lot "meaner" than it did. Purely psychological.

The only restrictive part of the tC's intake is the big, thick paper filter-- and you know the reason for that. There's no lower resonator, the upper resonator is only for noise control, and the upper pipe section is plenty big enough to feed that TB.

After a few weeks of watching the ScanGauge monitor temps, I removed the upper resonator and capped the opening for it-- sure enough, it is a prime candidate for heatsoak. On a warm day, it acts kind of like an "interwarmer". The intake makes no difference in sound with it off, either.

I've felt, since I got the car, that the powerband had a weird dip in it about 3.5k-- like a hesitation. As I said, I removed the upper resonator, and put a pipe in behind the bumper, connecting the lower intake pipe for the airbox to the front of the bumper-- I just popped the mini-grille out. Air temps are now very low. The hesitation, after about 70 miles of driving, seems to be gone. Heatsoak is minimal. Waiting at a long light at idle will bump the temp up about 20º, but less than .5 miles of driving will have it down to within 2-3º of ambient. Without the "extension", that cooling could take as much as 10 minutes at moderate speeds.

Of course, warmer air requires less fuel to combust, so if the minor increase in power brought about by the cooler intake hits me for a few MPG, I'll go back to the "warmish" air intake. There's really no need to replace an intake tract unless it's restrictive... and ours isn't.

Excellent!

I think it looks nice and all, the ones that go right into the fender especially but I'd much rather save for the S/C anyday, once my 91 SHO gets beat by my TC, I'll love this car!

If I'm not mistaken... a CAI comes with the SC.

I still have never seen a picture of the proposed parts in the SC kit that includes a CAI. If it truely ever gets released.

there's a pic in the new SCION magazine (available from a SCION dealer)but I don't remember if there's a CAI or not.
