Hmmm there might be a way, but it would be pointless. If you want to know if you are in nuetral just shake the shifter. When it's in gear it cant move much when it's in neutral it can move a lot basicly all the way from 1st to 5th.
as far as i know the only "nuetral" safety switch is on the clutch pedal...which would be useless for a remote start. get into the habit iof leaving it in neutral
There are remote start systems for 5 speeds that have sensors installed in various places to relay information on what gear the car is in. Assuming thats what you are looking for. As far as on the car itself, I dunno :/
I always leave the car in neutral when I park. If you do every time as well you could tie your remote start into the parking brake instead. I doubt the brake would keep the car from lurching though if you did try to start it in gear, so be careful.
You can get a remote start that keeps your car running for a few seconds after you turn it off so that way you cannot leave it in gear. My buddy has that on his Saturn. Its a good safety thing to keep from leaving your car in gear
