I have a feeling that someone is gonna drop a big "Try the search button" on you. I'd say look up topics involving shifting mostly, that's about all it comes down to, launching and shifting. Also, certain mods will help, like sticky tires to help with the launch...other than that, you'd be getting into parts that increase horsepower and handling. Well tires do improve handling, but if you want to keep everything mostly stock, they'll increase your chances of winning because you'll have a better shot at launching well and reduce some wheel hopping.

Ok, ive had my Tc now for about 2 months, and its been my first car/ my first manual car. Basically ive just gotten comfy with gettin moving quick. However, most races seem to be a driver race. And for many of us newbs im sure we would appreciate someone steppin in and giving us some tips and help on refining our "racing" skills lol.

my tips...im not gonna be mean like everyone else by saying search but, launch the tC at arouns 2.2-2.5k rpms, and dump the clutch if u wanna, itll chirp a lot with wheelhop but its fine....also dont pay attention to redlining much, just learn which gear redlines at what mph etc and then pay attention to the MPH of each gear for exp (1st gear=30mph, 2nd gear=52mph, 3rd gear=80mph etc...)use your speedometer instead of rpm gauge to race the tC...and also if you really wanna win a race, POWERSHIFT...if that all fails and youre doing all i teach you right, your car is just plain slower then the other
power shift = kill your clutch and tranny. Buy a short shifter, it will be cheaper than replacing your clutch after a month of "power shifting." (im exadurating but still)
Thats why you buy a short shifter, clutchmasters Stage 2 clutch, and Fidanza light weight fly wheel. total cost for me $800 but some of the best $800 i ever spent.

Right foot on gas at all times..pedal to the metal.
when you get near redline or redline speed you stomp on your clutch while at the same time shifting gears. Its faster and takes a bit of power to do it.. Basically its really bad for your clutch. Spend 100 bucks on a shortshifter save your self the extra 500 bucks.

Oh wow, power shifting sounds awful, do you do that often blazin chengy?
It is something that is fine to do in a race car built for it, but awful for a stock car, especially one with a little clutch like ours.
Do you think that the TRD clutch would be able to support power shifting?

I really dont see what youre saying about the short throw...sure youre hand doesnt have to move 3 more inches......... whats that take tenth of a second? I have the TWM short throw and love it to death, but I really dont see how your yelling at the guy whos asking about a clutch to get a short throw. Sure it helps, but its not like its a drastic improvement over stock.
he wants to power shift.. whynot just get a shortshifter and save his clutch.. powershifting will only save you what a tenth of a second also? thats what im saying.
^^^if not make you loose time because of all the slippage on the clutch/flywheel
I know powershifting is bad for your clutch/tranny...I was just saying its a lot faster and if you really wanted to win a race youd powershift...I also think a STS would help but you act as if it helps as much as powershifting...Short throw shifter wont help as much anyways without clutch etc...I think if you can shift fast with a stock shifter you wont need the STS, besides about powershifting being better then the STS its because when you shift gears your revvs dont drop and you stay in power range....I know powershifting helps because my cousin ran his Celica 2000 gt w/intake,axleback and stripped rear at the track when powershifting and n ot powershifting...My cousin ran consistent times of 16.0-16.1 w/o powershifting and when he did powershift he ran 15.7....1st run w/o powershifting=16.1, 2nd run= same, 3rd run =16.0............4th run while powershifting=15.8, 5th run 15.7 and last run =15.7 also.....runs 1-3 no powershift, runs 4-6=powershifting...Originally posted by ALaS@Nov 27 2005, 10:47 PM

Weak, just practice shifting faster. your revs dont drop THAT fast, think of the possibilities of powershifting + a STS ?
