Engine Power

Okay I still can't figure this out, please explain to me how this works...
The 2.4l engine is only making 160bhp, while my buddies celica is 1.8 making 185bhp.. other than the compression ratio tc 9.6-1 and the celica is 10.5-1 why in the world is his making so much more power. I thought by increasing fuel to the engine I might make quite a bit more horsepower. My friend said I would gain a little but waste a ton of fuel running the engine really rich. I just want 200 hp without forced induction any solutions?

it spins... compare the redlines of each... the celica engine makes all it's power at the top end... the 2AZ isn't made for revving high
Running rich won't make more power. It will make less power.

You won't make 200hp without forced induction without spending a LOT of money on making the engine breathe at higher than stock rpm. And you'll be giving up the low end torque for high end torque. It's usually not a good plan for a street driven engine.
Say with modest cam changes and maybe some head work (porting) and after adjusting the valves what kind of hp/tq gains could one expect?
Remeber the tC uses the vvt-i head and the celica uses a vvtl-i head so the valves open longer and allow more air and fuel to enter at 5,500 rpms and up. Different type of heads altogether. We have had a forum topic before about converting the tC to a vvtl-i head but you would only be in the proper rpm's for the last 1,700 rpms before you red line and with almost a four inch stroke there's no way around that.
I am not talking about switching the heads thats messy I used to do that with hondas, sumthing always didn't work, I talking about some cam's for the tc from crane or someone like that, with the upgrade fuel system and intake.

I'm thinking like this...
Fuel rail, fuel pump, upgrade injectors 550cc, feul regulator
Cai intake, alpha works throttle body
Camshafts, titanium springs and retainers, valve adjustments

I've got pricesbreaks on everything but the camshafts I was wondering if anyone could tell me if for the bank I'm thinking of spending is the hp/tq gains worth it.

Also I still thinking turbo/nos down the road so these parts would help me later.

torqued, what exactly is it about forced induction that you absolutely, positively must avoid?

I'm just curious, that's all--no offense intended.

Where's your engine management solution? eManage? F Con V? None of that stuff will be worth a dime if you can't control it, and the OEM ECM isn't going to adjust itself to work with all that stuff. It can't.
I have nothing against FI I want to prepare my motor for turbo later, but I was wondering what kind of gains can be achived with the modifications listed in my second post. Lo bux yes I was thinking e-manage. I can't be the only one thinking that 2.4l inline four can't be made to make more power, jeez my 1.6 honda made more powerand more torque with a few bolt ons.
Here's some other suggesttions to help increase HP
-s-pipe with header (maybe 3-6hp gain)
-2.5 or 3in midpipe
-light wieght pully or under pully (maybe 3-6hp gain too)
-light wight flywheel (help acclerate faster)
- just light-en up your car EX: rims, carbonfiber hood/hatch, racing seats
You coould probaly get all this done for less than force induction
You're new here, so I'll be gentle about "power pulleys" and the like, but they are significantly dangerous to run, particularly because we have a chain driven oil pump. I would not run one on my dog's lawnmower. When ATI, Fluidamper, or TCI makes a proper damper for the engine, then it's a good solution. What is available right now is all crap.

All the mods you are decribing will != forced induction. They will make things marginally better, but you will not come close to even the TRD SC and it's the most marginal of all FI in terms of pure hp gain.

Stop crowing about the fact that your dog has a lawn mower! If any of the cats in this house reads this thread, one of them is sure to want one, or at least a riding lawn mower (lazy-ass cats).
A cat in MD with a lawnmower? I shudder at the thought! I can just imagine a cat cutting grass, driving wherever the heck it wants with no apparent logic at all. Too scary for words. OK, enough about the dog's lawnmower...

What's wrong with head work? If done correctly it is a superb modification. If you can't get it to work right then I would attribute that to shoddy workmanship and/or user error.

You're insane. IF you get that to idle correctly (and I'm not seeing any fuel management in your list) you still don't have a need for all that fuel. Are you gunning for 6:1 AFR or some whacky ####?

Unless you're building some stripped down, all motor, unstreetable Honda hatch then the first modification should always be adding forced induction. Every 4 banger should have some.
