I'm such a dork! I have heard so many of you out there talk (and rave) about their Eclipse units! Well, I have finally did some research on these units and it looks like the AVN 5435 is just what i need!

I did a search on this forum about this unit but no one has really talked about this units finer points.....so for those of you that have it, I need to ask some questions because the Eclipse website is a little thin on the specs.

1) I know this unit has 5v pre outs. How many does it have and can one of them be thrown to a center channel?

2) what mounting bracket / sleeve did yall use to get a flush look? (pictures?)

3) is there a multiple viewing angle selector?

4) does it come with its own GPS antenna or do you have to buy one separate?

I notice too that the there is an even HIGHER END version called the AVN 5495 that many people on different forums have installed. This unit comes with a 30gb hard drive that has navigation installed!!!! the crazy thing is that this unit is listed NOWHERE on the eclipse site!!!! Can any of you out there shed any more light on this product???

1) 2 front 2 rear 2 non-fading (none for center, this is not a surround unit)

2) stock bracket with re-drilled holes to move unit back. toyota modified side pieces to tack onto the sides

3) This would be dependent on the DVD options? Couldn't tell you? The only thing I know that uses multiple viewing angles somewhat consistently is porn.. and I haven't played that in my car...

4) Everything needed is included, no special harnesses, no anything.. most of it directly plugs up. Just buy it from a real dealer and get the 3 year warranty and 1 year theft protection is you're spending that chunk of change. You can get great deals from local dealers, just have to ask, be nice and persistent. I got the AVN5435, Satellite tuner installed for $1850 after 8% tax. A steal baby!

AVN5495

10GB of the 30GB unit is used for the Map data. The map data (according to Fujitsu-ten/Eclipse) is different than the AVN5435 DVD. It converts CDs to ATRAC3 and stores them to disc as you insert each disc. Satellite radio support was supposed to come this month. It supports SRS processing to do simulate 5.1 sound from 4 speakers.

Thanks for the info! Ya, I called ECLIPSE right after I posted this. they gave me the same run down. Man I really want a 5.1 DVD setup that also has the ability to do NAV in a double din unit. I'm starting to see a trend with these companies that really sucks. What they do is package these Double din (not the flip up kind) LCD's to do either NAV or DVD, but not both......or if they DO have the ability to do both NAV & DVD, its only 4 channel...no 5.1. That stinks. My last hope is the Kenwood DDX-8017. Its has the ability to run 5.1 (it has a 5v center pre out) BUT I dont know if it does NAV. it dosent list a NAV feature on crutchfield and Kenwoodusa.com has been down for months (does anybody know what the heck is going on with Kenwood??)

***UPADATE***

Called crutchfield and they said that the KNA DV4100 will work wit this unit! so this unit is IMHO the best unit. The only problem is getting someone to fab a bracket and bezel to mount it flush......

The reason why I went with the Eclipse as opposed to a Kenwood double DIN was at the time the pre-outs were weaker and I didn't want a bunch of seperate add-on boxes. Plus it would have cost more money to get both the DVD player, the NAV system and the DVD decoder. Eclipse called me and took a survey of what I liked I didn't like about the AVN5435. I told them I wanted AT LEAST some type of digital out if they weren't going to do the 5.1 themselves.

But that new DDX-8017 with the 5v pre-outs built in 5.1 sounds tastey... *sigh*. Oh well I can always sell my Eclipse & satellite radio tuner

I'm still debating on 5.1 in my car. I only have a couple of DualDiscs (both Nine Inch Nails), but they sound great in my home theater system and part of me wants the same in my car.

As for the bracket. Just use your stock bracket and re-drill some holes a little farther back. Actually there are some little notches that are perfect to be drilled out. Then those bezel pieces are like $15-20 from toyota and attach to the sides. Scosche I think sells them too.

if anyone is from oc/la area, super autobacs has the eclipse dvd/navi unit for 999 + tax which comes out to be under 1100. the cheapest i have found it anywhere else is 1800. not including installation. but your stock plugs plug into the hu and you can use the stock mounting brackets. eclipse is having some kind of anniversary sale. the only problem i am having is finding the speed sensor. does anyone know where it is? someone told me it is the purple and white wire but there are no purple and white wires going to the ecu. does anyone know?
