General Question..., has anyone gotten their P.C.V. checked out at the dealer and or replaced and if so how much was the labor. Is this something which anyone can check or can it only be changed professionally? My dealer CLAIMED a labor fee of over $200 bux for this and I just want to check this equipment and change or upgrade my air filter to a CAI. any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. thank you

I thought the PCV valve was covered under the emissions warranty. As for the fee to check it, I think thats a bit steep for a part that costs under $10 to replace.

The Toyota part number is: B2040-135071

I'm curious what makes you think you should have it checked out?

PCV valve (if that's what you're talking about) should not need to be replaced anywhere near this soon, and it sure as hell shouldn't cost $200 to replace. I'm pretty sure that since it's a consumable part, though, it wouldn't be covered under any warranty.

It's an emissions part and it carries a 100k mile Federally mandated warranty. All emissions control pieces do.

Prove it. You may be thinking of some weird California thing. PCV valves are not covered under any manufacturer's warranty here in Georgia, to the best of my knowledge. I would be quite surprised if they were, given that I've paid multiple times to have them replaced and they weren't subject to any warranty then.

The EPA thing you linked to clearly says that PCV valves must be warranted for 2 years or 24,000 miles; Toyota apparently warrants them for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

Good info -- I didn't know the PCV valve was covered for any length of time. Thanks, Lance.

The 100k mile thing must be very old school. I remember it when catalytic converters were new to cars because everyone complained about how expensive they were, and they weren't paragons of reliability when they first arrived on the market. Thanks for doubting, it makes me do my homework.

I work at a dealership. Non toyota, but I do know for a fact that CERTAIN emissions parts are covered by a federally madated 8 year 80,000 mile warranty. In case you are curious I work at a Jaguar dealership. We warranty all parts for the(minus the obvious wear items)remainder af the factory warranty, which in our case is 4 year 50,000 miles. But all manufacturers are different. I don't think that the PCV in covered under the federal mandate. That is mostly for item like cats.
Hope this helps.

Maybe I was misleading with the PCV thing. The high cost was quoted to me by Toyota to just CHECK the vavle
I assumed if it needed to be replaced it would be covered but they mentioned how part of the engine had to be dissassembled and crap like that.

Jiffy Lube used to check the PCV valve for free. Why are you even having to have it checked so early?

I'd call it a straight up ripoff.
