Both myself and a company in southern california are toying with the idea for a concept Scion tC convertible. To keep up my end of the research into its possible construction, I need help with getting schematics and such so as to accurately produce designes.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate it.

Well, you could have the manual for the car that the tech guys have at toyota...they cost a good $100-$150, but are the tear downs and rebuilds of the car. Thanks though.

Thanks [lo bux racer], so should I get the body shop book from the dealership? I really am considering this project as it has already been done by another Scion owner in So Cal...Convertible xB - I have to admit it is a start on that one, but possibilities are endless.

Oh and [courier11sec], would that be regular Elmers glue or superglue?

Any more help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone else think that the drop top xB kind of looks like a mid 1980's VW convertible?
Yeah, thats why I didn't really like how he did his. I would have tried to at least keep the back of the top vertical to keep the boxy shape to the ride.

On another note, perhaps I could reinforce the car, and just put a soft-top on until I can work out how to make a hardtop....or maybe I'm really getting into serious money now.

I do have a question for you guys, I won't be doing this project for another year and a half; do you think it will still be a good mod by then within the scion community like at events and shows? or should I just keep my plans and buy a new scion in a year and a half...

well inevitablegod,

since you work at a dealer, can you help me get my hands on some plans or something. I "think" that that top you mention would look interesting, thing is...how do you make a hatch tC into a hardtop convertible? I mean, the movements I have ideas just need some mechanical help...but to keep the hatch look and the moonroof is interesting. Thing is, I want this thing to look completely stock...but then I press a couple buttons in the cockpit and BAM...drop top.

Get back to me on it.

How much money do you suppose? Oh, and overhaulin already declined my request due to the simple fact that the car is perfect now. I guess I have to really mess it up trying to do this project for them to consider it.

i know the guys in socal who could do it, but their fabricating skills are not cheap, and they are usually very very busy with projects. i dont know what to tell you, that kind of custom work is usually only for people with real deep pockets, or real deep connections. hell, usually both.
Who are these guys you speak of? I mean, I'd really like to get this modification done. I mean, like I said people would want to get this done and I would give the rights to them and what not just as long as I'm known as the person who got it done first. Well, you can be one of my connections. I don't have deep pockets at all, infact I don't have any right now. I need to get some sponsorships or something.

Get back to me with your thoughs.

Ok, I've contacted a Scion representative and this is what he said:

Thanks for your idea! We appreciate your interest in Scion. However, we do not accept suggestions for design proposals, new products, marketing, or advertising ideas.

Doesn't that just suck. Oh well, so we know they aren't going to help me.

Alright, I've got some new sketches drawn up and will scan them in as soon as I can. I need to know something from anyone who reads this, is anyone good in computers that can get the tC in a program with the correct geometry and all? I have solidworks but I don't know how to use it yet.

Let me know.
