When are the doors supposed to automatically lock? I noticed that sometimes they automatically lock but at other times, they don't automatically lock. Whats the deal? I'm confused...

the only time they should auto lock is if you unlock with the remote and dont open a door in 45 seconds or so. also, if you unlock with the remote and only open the hatch, they will relock. other than that, they shouldnt auto lock.

edit: oh, you have scion security. they should auto lock also when you start your car with the doors closed.
So if I start my car with the door open... it won't lock??? Maybe thats the case...

weird. mine dont auto lock. or if they do i havent noticed. hmm. must check in the morning...
mine definetly don't auto lock... but maybe the automatic cars have it and the manuals don't w/o security
Hmmm..I haven't noticed my doors autolocking when I start to drive.

However, I did read that the doors will open from the inside when you have them locked...the manual said something about being careful with kids in the car.

Just FYI in case people didn't know.
Ok... I asked my dealer and he said that the doors will only automatically lock if all the doors (including hatch) are closed prior to putting the key into the ignition.
I am not sure if this is only for people with the Scion Security or not... you guys/gals can let me know.

so this auto door lock works on all tC's? not just the auto?
Should... just not sure if its a standard feature or if it is only for people with the scion security system...
did we figure it out yet?...

Nope... someone gotta test this theory out in their non-scion security tC...

I have a non-secure tC.

The doors do NOT lock on their own, no matter what you do.

Cheers!
Hmm... if that is true... then maybe its tied into the security system... could be....
ok I have a non security manual and I checked it out and they do the 45 second thing and the auto lock when you start the car with doors shut is for security only
I've got an automatic WITH Scion security that I added about two weeks after I bought the car.

Before the security was installed, the car would only "auto re-lock" itself (in about 30 seconds) if you unlocked it by remote and did not open any doors. There was no other form of automatic locking. (This is in the manual BTW)

After security was installed, (and in addition to the above) the car will now "auto-arm" itself after a 15, 30 or 45(?) second delay. When it auto arms, it also automatically locks the doors. If you've left your keys in the ignition and close the door, it wont auto arm. If you left them in the seat next to you, you're screwed, it will lock you out if you aren't careful.

The auto-arm is an option that you can turn off or on. It's also the ONLY form of auto LOCKING that I've seen so far with this car.

My GMC truck will auto LOCK the doors when I start the engine and put it in "drive", and it will auto UNLOCK when I put it in "park". The Scion wont do either. Too bad, I really like the feature on the truck.

im confused, mine's got security system. but i've never seen the closed doors lock on engine start.
I'm very lost myself... I don't know whats supposed to happen... seems like different people have different experiences...

I got the security system and I've seen my lock from time to time... when I'm in the car I mean. It definitely will lock and rearm itself if I don't open the door after I unarm it...
Yeah, I'm confused too.......some people without the Scion Security are saying that their doors auto LOCK when they get in and and some time passes (ie: 45 seconds)?!

I've NEVER seen my car do this.

However, the auto-RELOCK (after you've used your key fab to unlock the car, but fail to open a door fast enough) HAS happened to me.
