Am I getting taken advantage of by my dealer?

I ordered my tC a long time ago and when I got it, it had 48 miles on it, but the slip said 7. No big deal to me, I guess- Salesman tells me they had to drive it out to the place to get the leather, so I didn't make a big fuss out of it. I think I was more upset with the fact that I only had 1/8 a tank of gas when I drove it home

I had many of the options installed and picked it up at the end of the week it came in. Along with those options was the Scion Security system, which they did not install but charged me for. They said when it comes in (in one or two days), they would call and have me bring it in and install it right away. Well it has been over one to two days; it has been about a week with no luck. The thing is, I am driving my car up to school (300+ miles away) in three weeks.

I know people will think the stock security system sucks and just to get aftermarket at that price, but this is what I want with the car... Now the question is are they just stalling and taking their time or are these Scion Security systems really hard to get?

hmm... that sucks... but I don't see a reason for them to stall on purpose... maybe they could get it from another dealership if they're having such a hard time...
you should definitely follow up on that, and pick up their slack. Try to negotiate with your dealer so that he can send you to another dealer that might have that alarm. The whole thing about the gas and the miles seems kinda shady though. Make sure you stay on top if it. Call them, and don't worry about being annoying or anything. Just make sure that they're aware of the urgency of the situation, maybe they'll speed it up for ya. Good luck, and post your experiences.
oh yah, I forgot to comment on the gas... that's just not right... They make you shell out some serious money and then you have to go and immediately buy gas on top of that? hmmm.... Alex is right... keep on 'em about the alarm

If I were you... I'd try to get out of buying their Scion Security. Tell them that since you had to wait for so long, that you don't want it anymore. Make them adjust your loan amount or give you a refund. I wish I could still do that... Clifford and/or Viper makes much better security systems for the same price.
wow man, your dealership seems a lil shady?, newayZ the gas thing, didn't you have to sign a lil sheet that said the car was fully cleaned and that they gave you a full tank of gas? my dealership did, man if i were you id give them a piece of my mind, just because when a ppl tell me things like something is going to be in and its not thats just wrong you know? id rather know that its going to be backorderd and that i can expect it like late rather than not be told at all

all my paperwork says that i should have 7 miles on my car upon delivery.
when i went to pick up the car, they spent 5 mins with me in the car and handed over the keys. so i just drove off the lot and go on the highway (about a mile) before i saw that i had 21 miles on my car! i am like what the h*ll!

I didnt feel like driving back off the highway to go back to B*tch em out but then now i regret not doing that bc i live 30-40 mins away from the dealership

Makes me wonder if anyone else test drove the car without me knowing.

when i picked up my car (waited almost 2 wks) i told the guy that i was supposed to sign a little delivery sheet. He had me to wait while he runs back in to check on that bc apparently he didnt know anything about it. Then comes back out and said i didnt need to sign anything for it and told me not to worry about it.

i was told twice by the finance manager that i would sign that and the guy says he's been working there for more than ten years obviously he is very retarded bc he had no idea what i was talking about.

should i bring it up when i go back for my oil change or just forget it?

Liz
hmm, you might want to ask them? and be like wth? but you know you can get an oil change anywhere, meaning any like scion/toyota place, you dont have to go back to your original dealership, at least thats what my carsalesmen told me and he wouldnt lie to me cuz hes my mom's friend's husband's friend haha
My car came with a full tank of gas. Actually the window sticker said at the bottom of the options column "***full tank of gas***" I'd think that a full tank of gas is the least they should do for you!
Since I had to bring my car back in a few times... first time being that my dealer forgot me to sign some paperwork... second, third, fourth, etc.... don't remember anymore...

He actually bought me another tank of gas cause I went out of my way to go back... lol

Come to think of it... I feel your pain. I am paying for a cat back exhaust that I have yet to get. The dealer told me that it would be on the car before I took delivery (thursday July 12th) Wasn't in then, but then he told me that saturday the 14th. Well needless to say, its still not it. I'm a little annoyed also... but I relate these issues to the dealer being new, the car being brand new, and the demand so high... i just think it sux having to wait and not being able to get a clear answer!
hey danny..

i'd call other dealers and ask them if they can get you the security system.. that will tell ya if it's on backorder..

i'd also talk the general manager of the dealership and ask him what he's going to do about a part you've already paid for and haven't received.. and ask him what he's going to do about that.. since it's a little shady..

I agree with dealers not "being with the program".. like they aren't thinking.. salesman i'm dealing with told me he'd call me and let me know what's up with the tC i ordered.. nope no call today.. i called and talked to a sales manager, got all my questions answered in like 5 minutes and yes the car's on the way.. I wish i could take the sale away from this salesman.. he says he'd call.. never does.. doesn't that make him a liar? so i am having the sales manager do all the work for me.. Or at most have him stand over this salesman while i finalize the paperwork..

don't give up.. talk to the general manager.. and call Scion..

I had a similar experience when I bought my tC...I had been checking prices on the internet, and I had called 2 or 3 dealers and visited two of those, and about half the people I spoke to were annoying and worse than useless. While I was still in the research phase but was pretty sure I was going to buy the tC (just not from whom), I discussed things with a really good saleswoman at World Scion (Atlanta, GA) -- she knew what she was talking about, returned my calls, etc., and when she didn't know the answer to something, she would tell me (not make something up) and get back to me with an answer later on.

When I was ready to buy -- I had just sold my car and needed to place an order THAT DAY -- I went back to World Scion with my dad to order a tC. The saleswoman who had helped me over the phone a couple weeks earlier wasn't there, I was told, but I could speak to her partner.

Well, it turns out her partner sucks $#@. I put down a $500 deposit that day (Sunday) and picked the options and color I wanted. She claimed she could not give me an ETA, but would call me the next day. At about 4:30 the next day, not having been called, I gave her a call to check the status of my car. She still hadn't locked onto a particular vehicle for me (she was supposed to check with other dealers and make a trade from some other dealer's inventory), but she would get back to me the next day. I was fairly annoyed at this point, since other dealers had at least been able to check their inventory system and pick a particular vehicle that was somewhere in shipment. Tuesday afternoon, she calls me and says that she has a brand-new Flint Mica tC that just rolled onto the lot. Of course, this wasn't the color I had asked for (I wanted Indigo Ink Pearl), but that's okay -- as it turns out, I LOVE the flint mica color. After taking a few minutes to decide, I called her back and told her I would take it -- remember, I had already put down a deposit -- and I was to pick it up that afternoon (about 5 hours later). About 45 minutes before I was supposed to pick it up, she called me and told me that another salesperson had sold my car. I was quite pissed. Fortunately, she called me back 20 minutes later and said that, actually, no one had sold it and the deal was still on.

Fortunately, once I got to the dealership that evening, the woman I had originally dealt with was there, and I got to deal with her instead.

The moral of the story is that some salespeople just suck. Others are good. Everything turned out okay, though, 'cause I got my tC and I love it!

Yeah, I was very surprised at the utter incompetence of the dealership I went to... When they wrote up our sales receipt, they mispelled the name on it and also had the pricing completely wrong! They didn't include any of the options on the receipt and did not even deduct my deposit. I noticed it was wrong and mentioned it, only to end up paying more than the incorrect amount.

I mean, come on... If you want to sell a car to a customer pay some freaking attention. Sometimes I think I have too much patience for this kind of crap.
wow. I am sorry that all you guys/girls had problems like that.

I know we always make sure there is a full tank of gas. NOBODY should need to buy gas right after leaving the lot. Go back and make them do it (talk to the sales manager if the sales person will not do it). As for the security thing, if you wanted to get something else, go for it. If they can't refund you the money or lower your financing, ask if they can give you a credit in the parts department (you know they have something you want).

hehe my dealer is on vacation so no updates for a week or so on my tC. <sigh>
I can feel everyone's pain. The sales person I was dealing with decided he would take a 3 week vacation starting the week after I put down my deposite and after he told me it would take about a week and a half to come in.

Its going on 3 1/2 weeks and he is still on "vacation". Every week I call on Thursday and ask for an update from the manager. My car has been "at the port" for 2 1/2 weeks. I think I smell bull sh#t. If this turns out to be BS I think it will make me reconsider the TC all together.
***Update*** (as if you care)
I talked to the sales person again today about my exhaust. I guess what he's being told is that TRD didn't make enough of the exhausts to go around, so they're only putting them on cars that were ordered with them. Once those are all done, then they will send them to dealerships. Does that make sense? I guess it does, but damn, how long does it take? I could have gone to japan myself and built one out of tooth picks and came back by now....
