A few Questions

I just picked up my tC on wednesday when my bf noticed that the third brake light doesn't light up all the way across the strip. He said that only the middle third was lighting up no matter which lighting scheme was applied (ie, lights on no brakes, lights on brake applied, etc.).

So my question is: is the whole strip supposed to light up? We took it to the dealer to check it out and they had to call 3 or 4 people to get an answer, so I thought I'd check with the gurus on here. They said that the brake light is functioning properly and that only the middle is supposed to light up.

It sounds pretty stupid to have a whole strip of LEDs in there and only have the middle work!?!

Also, two days old and my headlights are fogging up majorly on the inside of the cover. I mean, the whole face visible to you if you are staring at it is fogged up.. They said they were just gonna order me a new set of headlamp assemblies. Anyone else have this problem?

There are no LEDs except for the middle part of the 3rd brake light - and yes, it is kinda stupid to have the whole big thing and only the middle lighting up. Probably the designer thought it would be cool.

And with the fogging headlamps - you'll be the first one with this problem

Ditto to what zoltiz said on the third brake light. As far as the fogging of the headlights is concerned, that generally means that moisture has gotten inside the headlamps, which is not good. Be sure they do get you a brand new set, and watch out for that in the future.

That would be cool if the more u alpied the brake, the bigger the strip would become... alas just a dream.

^^That's a pretty cool idea. Haha, anyone remember Michael Knight? Imagine the brake strip light doing the Michael Knight light thing.

Volvo has been fighting for years to have progressive brake-light indicators. They developed a system that flashes rapidly if the pedal is depressed hard/fast to creat a sense of urgency for people behind that vechile. The government will not let this design go through, not to clear on why but maybe i can look into it. - t

That is very interesting... I really like the idea. I'm sure they didn't allow it because the flashing red or even the flashing light factor is used for by the emergency vehicles???

Many vehicles already have flashing third brake lights (although not with variable light levels related to pressure on the pedal), and I find it annoying and distracting...

hey basilik, can u give me an example?

but yes, as i imagine it - it is more distracting then informative

I've seen late-model Accords and Chevy minvans (especially ones used by Bellsouth, our local phone company) with flashing third brake lights.

I've seen those too...yes, quite annoying as I'm driving. I sit and think, "god, stop blinking already!!!" instead of driving and watching what I'm doing. Kind of dangerous

Apparently BMW liked the idea, too.

Its on alot of their new models now...

I saw a post here too where someone had made their own mod using 2 more center tail lights to finish out the row. Is it the same person as in the Scionlife post?

and there's 3 of my friends too that make them.... so we all post about it... but uhh... i'm the only one on ystc i think out of the 4 of us.
