Oh, Doc, let them clammer over the possibly 1337 4wD they may get.
While an unlikely scenario (Toyota compact passenger sedan borrowing Subaru AWD technology), it is already slated for the next-generation Impreza to offer a model with integrated Toyota Hybrid Synergy technology...motor, battery, planetary CVT and all. That would almost certainly be an AWD model--albeit badged as a Subaru. There's also a major change included; the next-gen Impreza is not a sedan and wagon dual offering, but a single 5-door hatchback design (at least initially). Let's hope it's a good looking 5-door design...

Doc, we're one step closer to that dream we both have!

this...is indeed interesting! we all hoped that Toyota would use that Subaru part ownership to make a vehicle to pick up the baton where the Celica GT-Four left off.

i also heard that. i heard it was to build cameras....i dont know how much i bleve that tho. that would call for a TOTAL revamp of the plant. at least...cars are still cars. not those silly cameras

Interesting...Doesn't Toyota own part of Subaru now?

Toyota is, in fact, gearing up right this very minute over in Subaru's Indiana plant in order to increase Camry manufacturing capacity to supplement Kentucky.

-Ed

Hey, somebody else knows the reason Toyota bought that stake in Fuji and that it wasn't for the awd. Any car company can do that. They wanted the plant!
This isn't a unique strategy, really; GM entertained a possible partnership with Renault-Nissan, and GM was looking for cash + technology, whilst Nissan-Renault wanted only factory capacity--Kirk Kerkorian declined. Right after that, he sold his part in GM.

Now Ford has been the one in talks with Nissan-Renault for the past few weeks, and last I checked, they were still talking, but there has certainly been nothing concrete to come out of these, "talks." On the one hand, I'd hate to see a detrimental effect on Nissan product quality or engineering from a possible partnership; on the other hand, as someone born in this country, it wouldn't hurt to see someone lend a helping hand to our ailing domestic marques. As much as I hate a whole lot about my own country, I'd rather see it all improve, rather than just watch it flail about in pain. The USA needs to step up to the Toyota juggernaut and show the world what we've all always hoped it ought to be capable of.

-Ed [/b]
I agree ed, I want Ford and GM to improve because they are providing American jobs and play a huge role in market competion which improves quality and drives down cost. I used to just want them to kick the imports butts because, hey they aren't American but considering the jobs Toyota and Honda have brought to America and the market pressures they create, I want them to do well too. (honda too lol) Im a fan of Globalization when the benefit to us can be clearly seen, as in the automotive industry.

You know once upon a time-- and not in the too distant past, Toyota used to make performance AWD cars. Anybody remember the Celica GT-Four? They could certainly do it again.
I was just going to say "all-trac" to answer redx's comment.
