Scion tC Information » Drag Racing Scion tC Hot-Rod
Have you heard the rumors about a Scion tC hot-rod? The rumors are true!
There's a new race car in the works that will compete in NHRA & NDRA, thanks
to Dragshotz and Chris Harrington. The tC drag race car and its driver are
to be announced at SEMA this November.
Chris Harrington, a well-known drag-race photographer and writer has decided
to finance, with the help of sponsors, a Scion racing team using his vision
of a Scion tC as a full blown drag race hot-rod. Teaming up with Bob Norwood
and Tony Palo, who are in charge of the construction and development, this
hot-rod will introduce new technologies. Testing is scheduled to begin in
early 2005.
The following art work was created by Bo Kristensen who is well-known for
his car renderings for various racing teams.

For those of you looking for specifics about the technology, there aren't
many yet, but supposedly a de-stroked NORAD 3RZ Tacoma 4 cylinder engine
will be used along with unique new transmission. In any case, it appears
that many of the Toyota racing teams may move to this new Scion tC platform
within the next couple years due to the Toyota Celica being discontinued.
The official announcement about the car and the secret of its driver will be
revealed at SEMA, held in the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV
on Tuesday, November 2 through Friday, November 5, 2004. The show this year
is expected to draw 50,000 buyers and 100,000 industry leaders to the two
million square feet of exhibits.
Rumors surrounding this announcement include names like Chris Rado and
Leslie Durst. Rado has, apparently, commented about there being two other
teams in the works, consisting of separate sponsors and crews, but R & D
costs and other resources will be shared between teams. Will Rado give up
the Toyota Celica for the Scion tC? I guess everyone will find out at SEMA!
