well, all over the forums i see how installing an audio system in your car can void the warranty if the electrical fails. i was wondering, does this really happen alot.........like, does the electrical unit really just break down some times?

it depends what you're doing

but most of the time.. i think you'll just blow some fuses, or your equipment, the car rarely dies from a system, unless you turn it up with the car off and kill your batter/alternator, or if you're running 2000rms on the stock alt for long periods of time

Correct me if I am wrong here but the alternator puts out 100 amps which is pretty good for stock alternator. So if your amps draw to much power and cause the alternator to fry then I think that voids the warranty. So to prevent this I suggest yellow top battery or even red top or blue top battery.

Once the car is running the system runs off the alternator just like everything else hooked up to the battery. Getting a deep cell battery will only be more costly for no reason unless you run your system with the car off alot. the only reason I can see to get a deep cell is for the color to match a dressed up engine.

Deep cycle's prevent diming lights and let the amps run at full power without killing the alternator. All the alternator has to do is keep charging the battery. Normal battery will die quicker then a deep cycle. I can destroy a regular battery with my system but a deep cycle last longer.

That my freinds is why you have a cap. Like the other post says under most applications you sont need one. But with that high of a powered system you do. The cap stores wxcess electricity and releases it only when there is a drain. Thats why its used to deep the lights from dimming. It also helps protect overworking and overdraining of your battery and alt.

also, to clear something up: once the car is running, the alternator itself doesn't run anything. it keeps the battery charged. all of the electrical devices run off of the battery at all times. just a bit of fyi

You do realize it is the complete opposite, right? When the engine is on EVERYTHING runs off of the alternator as long as its working.

No, just leave him alone to his misconception. It will just turn into a big dumb argument.

That was funny.

And once you start your car, you're not actually burning gas. The car takes air through the radiator and turns it into fuel.

Actually, a cap does *not* protect against overworking or overdraining batt/alt. If anything, it would *increase* the amount of work on your alternator, as it is yet another device that requires power. A cap is nothing more than a reservoir (read: battery), that discharges energy quickly to a device, during times when there is not enuff being supplied. Typically, this occurs during prolonged or heavy bass.

Right but this adds extra security to your electrical system. Its like a buffer. I wouldnt call it a extra drain. Although it means the alternator does have to keep pumping out volts it doesnt ( to my knowledge) pull any more amps. Which is what really kills you battery and alternator. I may be wrong its been a few years since my electrical classes but thats how I remember it. Either way this alternator should handle most everything you throw at it.
