Not really a controversy.
An SRI draws hot engine bay air (your stock intake at least draws from the fender well). A CAI draws a bit further down into the fender than stock. CAI has more risk of hyrdrolock. Neither will make any sort of noticeable or usable performance gain on a tC regardless of what any add or ricer tells you They look cool and sound cool. Nothing wrong with that though, just dont expect much more than that. Oh and if they are made of metal like most are, they will heat soak worse than a stock intake, so in reality your power "gains" go away or go negative after idling for a minute or two unitil cool air is pulled in

Yeah neither will do anything but look nice when your hood is up, and give you a cool sound when you stomp the gas.
If you must have one, I would go SRI, CAI can be a pita, harder to get to filter to clean. I have an HPI SRI, cheaper than most , no engine light, easy to install. |

Especially when you have a "carbon fiber" SRI like mine.
I went to a car show once, and a guy thought it really was made of carbon fiber. I told him that it was just metal painted to look like carbon fiber, but he was sure he was right.
